Hey all,

As I've produced a few unofficial guides for this already, I've managed to have a real chance to play around with it.

* A segmented run is easily the way forward (although mad props to anyone who attempts the 3-save only Hardcore difficulty level on a speed run!). You can only have 20 segments/saves per profile, so if you want to have totally seperate saves throughout use the Hard Drive and 2 separate memory cards/units/USB sticks.

* You can beat the very last boss in under 60 seconds with a fully upgraded Javelin Gun (in fact, you can beat it on Zealot difficulty from a new game only 3/4 upgraded. The key is having the Alt-Fire mode upgraded to it's special ability). This when combined with Stasis packs and Health packs allows you to totally kick the ass of what can otherwise be a real friggin pain in the arse to beat.

* The quickest way to beat the Brutes are to drop a mine a bit in front of them, then freeze them so they run into it. On Casual/normal a fully upgraded mine will suffice, on Zealot you'll need 2 - 3 un-upgraded mines to kill it.

* Some rooms require you to kill everyone before you can proceed, but not all of them. Learning which doors are always blue and open will be essential (E.g. In Chapter 13 you should run down the 2 sets of red rooms that lead to the Brute encounter at the bottom. You can use a few stasis shots to buy you enough time to ignore the crazy amount of enemies in here!

I've managed to complete the game from scratch on a new profile on Zealot difficulty in the following time (proof attached below): 5hrs 14mins and 30secs according to the cleared file timer. So running a casual difficulty run for example will be a cinch (and doing so on a NG+ should be blisteringly fast). thumbsup

I'm looking forward to either running or seeing a run of this bad boy in action.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
normally I'm one to snap at people who start topics on games that just came out...  However, this is one of those few times that I'm glad that isn't the case...

First off congrats on finishing dead space two in such a short time...  I think many people said it was going to be 8-10 hours, so for you to demolish that time, great job...  I can't wait to see what happens from here since the time can probably be easily improved on...  BTW, how many times did you die before your final time?

While I would love to run this game, I really can't since I haven't played the first dead space yet, and how this is one of the few games that really scare the hell out of me...  Perhaps if I go play the first dead space and grow a pair, I might actually consider it... Until then I wish you Andrew Mills, or anyone else the best of luck in this game...

Bear in mind I wasn't actually speedrunning the game it I was recording a guide for someone and I just happened to run through most of the game. I stopped to collect ALL of the logs and items, opened up all of the emergency rooms etc, so the Zealot time can also be easily beaten (sub 5hrs on Zealot without a shadow of a doubt). I died a shit load, but my recording doesn't have any deaths in it as it wouldn't be much of a guide if I showed deaths would it Wink

I'd imagine a New Game on Casual could be done in 4hrs or so. Maybe sub 4hrs. Will be interesting to see what glitches can be discovered (ala Resi 4/5). Cheesy

I find it pretty funny there's not a dead space 1 run, even though it came out 3 years ago.

I wouldn't mind doing a DS2 speed run, could be quite good. There's loads of potential for different categories too. Smiley Need to finish writing my DS2 guides first, before I compile everything into this thread for a run.

Managed a 4:06:37 on Casual and im sure i can go faster i was stopping to take some pictures for friends to see some suits

Was considering it but i have no real way to record

Sub 4 on NG+ casual is more than possible

If your going for a no death i reccomend spending a few extra seconds to accuratley hit with the needle in chapter 14/15 because it can set you back not only in dying and re-loading but also with having to sit through cutscenes of isaac being re-seated in the machine

I completed hardcore in 4 hours with just a javelin gun and kinesis.(you can throw back any projectiles for an instant kill). The first play-through took me 7.5 hours and my last fresh zealot play-through only 3 hours and 15 minutes. Is this a worthy achievement? Should I make a video?

Im working on a DS2 Run (Normal) since the game was released. I finished hardcore today and I am sure that you can finish the game pretty fast if you are prepared for everything. I will let you know my result when Im done.

3:20 is possible I guess. I needed 4:30 for zealot and I wasted enough time.

Hi,

You can go under 3 hours, I`ve finished game on ~2:20 on easy, so zealot should be took ~2:50. Here`s some tips:

- In your inventory should be 9 stasis packs , 4 large medkits, 10 mines and over 1600 pulse rounds.
- Use only pulse rifle and detonator. In moments, when you meet this very faaaast monsters set some mines and go next ;p
- You must conserve ammo and stasis, if you can do this you mustn`t go to the shop.
- In some segments use enemy limbs for weapon - it`s faster than shooting.

Soon i`ll be have 1st part uploaded on YT.

Under 2:20??? WTF!? Shocked  Shocked

I've just done casual on 2:31:28 using the friggin Hand Cannon and the Hacker Suit, how the fuck did you get over 10mins faster if I dodged most of the battles in the game??? Undecided Cry
Kanji is laying.
I`m working on the better time. You must know, where you must shoot. If you have pulse rifle, the best place is... necromorphe`s balls, really ;].
I`m running on PC version btw.
A couple weeks back, I posted a single-segment hardcore run, found here:

It actually wasn't meant to be a speed run, but I finish quite fast.

Summation of all videos is 2:39:59, but according to SDA rules it might be 2-7 minutes less (cutout the final cutscene, intro menu selection and load screen, and whether the intro cutscene is considered as you having control of your character or not would shave off quite a bit). I'll leave precise timing up to anyone who cares.

The time would be what the games calls it to be, you need to pretend to load the cleared game file and it'll show you there your final time.

But very nice work for such a challenging run! Cheesy
trepidation
I like what I see. I think you should, either submit, or do an official run.
bull i got this game yesterday around 3 i beat it a 7 only dieing twice goofing around there is no way someone beat it in 2 hours

Hey all, here's the links (ALL qualities, from XQ to LQ) for my Xbox 360 Casual run:

http://www.gamerguides.eu/DS2_speedrun/

Let me know what you all think. I', watching Obikashi's PC run just now. Smiley

Just watched the first five segments and I can confidently say that THIS run is soooooo much better than your last one (I was one of the verifiers). Couple of weird choices/mistakes, but on the whole a much, much slicker run. Smiley

It also looks like along with faster aiming, the PC version benefits from better load times as well.

Only Offense Will Survive
Hey guys,
ive seen your run obikashi, good work. I started a speedrun today and had one save at the beginning of Chapter 9 with a time of 1:22. Fun fact is that I started that run on normal difficulty and didnt plan my inventory, I used everything I found in the game. Of course I used the Hand Cannon and some other weapons. Platform was Xbox 360, unfortunately I cant record it so far but I will try my best to do it soon.
Only Offense Will Survive
I was able to take a picture of one of my segments. I was able to improove the strategy of the first chapter so that I was able to get a time of 0:15:32 on normal difficulty. Im sure that I can lower that time.
I will try to record it soon and finish that whole run, I guess that it doesent much require much effort to sub the 2:30 on Xbox 360 on normal difficulty.

Thought I'd revive this thread by saying that I'm planning a couple of runs on the 360 (Both NG+ and both on casual but one will be SS and another will be Seg'd.)

atm my planned inventory is just to have Medium med packs to fill it up. (No ammo since I'll be using the hand-cannon.)

Weapons will be:
Hand Cannon
Line Gun. (Using the timed mine to kill ANTI I would think saves about 2-3 seconds.)

Suit will probably be the Elite Advanced Suit. (I don't have the Hacker suit 'cause I don't have Dead Space: Ignition.)

My goal time for SS is somewhere around 2:30:xx or below and seg'd 2:26:xx or below.

Feel free to post here if you've got any suggestions.
top tier GoW player
I'd prefer a non-NG+, no DLC Zealot run, but I liked Farizle's antics considerably.  He and Wolfwood put on a good show back when I was still actively playing the game and consulting with them.  I've since lost my notes for the VH No-Gun NUR+, so I'll be having a Hell of a time when I return to that run (starting at after first pack of kids in Ch.3).
You had ONE JOB
Could this by any chance be separated into discs? Because recently I beat the first disk in around 1hr 28 minutes on casual with some stupid deaths and typing.
