Chapter 12 Verse 9 (I think that's the right verse anyway) is the rising water on teh plane just after finding little Cereza.

It probably didn't take off a full bar of Balder's, but I was having no luck with the Moon.  And yeah, there's a huge "needs improvement" over all the hits I was taking through the game.  That accounts for a lot of not getting platinums thus having Halos for the Moon until Balder (technically I could have used the Gates of Hell inside the building before climbing up to Golem).

Good to know some of these sections are skippable...better/scarier to know when reading the wiki diffs exactly what sections you're talking about...

So yeah, that's like, 30s faster than the old run. 360 version so good. Read the YouTube description for the info.
The load times in that video look pretty slow from what I remember of my time playing Bayonetta. Have you got it installed to hard drive, Flicky?

Don't know if it'd actually make a difference to the chapter times, but still...

I know the prologue is quite slow at loading anyway, but I've heard that installing can cause some issues with gameplay so I haven't done it yet. The load times don't affect the game time at all though so I didn't want to risk having a good run and it crashing. When I compared loads with my friend on 360 we didn't notice much differnce in load times.

Run Update: Got my Chapter I recorded and I'm happy with it. The major fight is both very lucky and unlucky. The enemies all spawn perfectly and die quickly but the Beloved doesn't play along which wastes a bit of time. However, everything else goes perfectly and the luck makes up for the bad luck and then some. The Beloved takes one extra combo than standard and two extra than a lucky kill so it wastes about 3-4s. I can throw it on YouTube if people really want it.

Time for Chapter I: 5:21.48
Total time: 8:01
Projected completion time: 1:50:48

Edit:

Chapter II is in progress. I have a decent backup run. It has a perfect Jeanne (the only time I've come close too) but a sloppy end to the arena fight. Left me with a 5:34. I will play around tomorrow and it'll depend on if I can get another perfect Jeanne as to whether this will stick. After dumb numbers of attempts trying to recreate my Jeanne fight I decided to drop to a more lenient time. After trying to get a good jeanne fight and an arena fight that would improve on the time I have decided to stick with this one. I may try again tomorrow, but I will probably wonder why I put myself through this again.

Edit: Much to my dismay I found a faster way to do Chapter II. Will cut off about 20s. I actually found three faster ways (all doing the same thing in a different order) and had to spend ages trying to figure out which is actually the fastest. One saves about 20s, another saves 19s and the other about 17s. I hate that I found this faster way so much. So so much. I will kill whoever is responsible for Jeanne.

So, after way too much playing around and so on I'm back to bayonetta. I've spent a lot of time on Chapter II. More time than I care to admit and I'm (begrudgingly) happy to say that my best recorded run is going to be kept. The new strategy I have isn't as significant as I thought and unless I completely replicate the current run (luck and all) and add some more luck, then it won't even be faster. So, I'm keeping it which means onto Chapter III.

More interestingly as the marathon is coming up I'll be doing some SS practice runs on stream (at http://www.justin.tv/flickyish ) which should be pretty good to watch. I wasn't happy with how much practice I did for last year so I'm upping the ante. Current stream times are:

10pm BST (11pm CEST, 5pm EDT, 2PM PDT) on Saturday 3rd September
10pm BST (11pm CEST, 5pm EDT, 2PM PDT) on Tuesday 6th September

There may be some others around that week but the rest of the time I'll be going for recorded attempts. These runs won't be recorded for submission and they'll likely have a lot of me stopping to test things out and will definetely have lots of me talking. Hope to see some people check it out.

(Also, project completion time is down to 1:49:XX which means goal is down to 1:45)
Hey all!  I started speed running Bayonetta pretty recently and got my personal best of 1:50:12 last night and hopefully this week I'll be able to improve it and I'll be recording it.  Also, I'll start posting any possibly helpful videos I make for speed running Bayonetta.
Alternative hourglass skip method in Chapter 3 if someone does not want to purchase the Afterburner Kick technique:
You mentioned you wanted to see my Father Balder fight Flicky, so I made 2 videos comparing a glitch and a non-glitch speed run of it.  They are both sort of rough ideas of a consistent strategy that I would be using during a single-segment speed run with only the tools I'd have on me for the run at this point in the game.  Although, the in-game time is drastically shorter with the glitch version and my recording is far from the fastest it can be done, since I have an unrecorded sub 2 minutes in-game time with this strategy.

Also, I think I remember you mentioning a possible strategy involving mostly parries Flicky.  I tried it for a bit and couldn't consistently get the perfect parry that gives witch time so I couldn't see it being reliable, but maybe it just takes more practice.  I also wanted to note that you'll notice during the glitch version that no quick time events trigger during Balder fight.  I have never gotten a single quick time event or satellite event during this fight with the glitch strategy.

Good luck this week Flicky!
One more thing I wanted to share.  My Chapter 4 strategy for new game single segment runs.  I only use the weapons/abilities I'd have at this chapter in the run.  The way I jump off the platforms during the fire sequence guarantees that you get a certain rock formation that only makes you jump twice before grabbing the boss.  Also making sure you're very low places you on the rock almost immediately.
I haven't seen any other Chapter 4 runs so I'm not sure if this is all known already, but thought I'd share just in case.

That's the twitch VoD if anyone missed it. Please comment on gameplay only. I won't be able to watch it for a week, not back in England yet,  but I recall being happy with it at the time.

Next steps with the run are as follows:
Watch the full twitch VoD (my only SS attempt I have on video) and analyse it.
Start recording segmented attempts while finalising route.
Try and race some people (you up for this Doji? I'm assuming you're in the US and I do have a PS3 copy so we can be even)
Finish the segmented run and submit it.
Start SS run attempts and see how I do. If these go well, I'll submit.

Current goals are sub 1:35 segmented (thinking 1:2X is possible) and sub 1:40 single segment.
Sure, I'd be up for racing.  Are you on SRL Flicky?

Ya, I just made an account at my friends house. I'll let you know when I'm back in England and we'll set something up.
Hey guys , i just started to race one of my favorite games , inspired by you flicky in AGDQ . So i'm kinda new to this speedrunning thing but i've been getting some ok times in bayonnetta , so if you guys wanna race count me in , i'm currently waiting for my streaming equipment to arrive .
That's awesome FakemasterPT, you should set up an account at http://speedrunslive.com for racing and once you get your streaming equipment set up I can show you how to register your stream on the site.  Do you play on PS3 or 360?

Yeah, I imagine we're both more than happy to teach you how to play and I'm glad I inspired someone with the actual run. You know what, I'll make a #bayonetta on metroid2002 irc just as an easy place for us to meet and chat.

Also, seeing as I have people interested in the game here now, I was thinking of having a focus for practice to optimise parts of the game.

I'm really struggling with figuring out what is the fastest way of doing the prologue right now. I'm torn between spamming Jump+(hold)K, doing PPPPK-PPPPK (without the final kick) or the current punish thing. I think the punish is still faster if you catch things but not on single targets.
Also, what air combo gives the most magic in verse 2? I've been using PPPPP a lot because it can catch other enemies but I think PPPKKK or PPPPK is faster on single targets. If you guys could play around with me that'd be ace.

Edit: Doji, do you have any real time splits for PS3?

I'm in it now on the metroid2002 irc server. It's the same one #sda and #srl are on.

Just some things about run categories. I'm thinking no flute and no glitch would be good for racing. I'm thinking of going with first boss as a decent category for early races. Doji, if you can't get a hold of a 360 version then I'll try out a PS3 SS run to determine the difference in real time speeds.
Yeah sorry, I'm not going to be able to get the 360 version.  No glitches is fine with me, we can always just choose to race with or without them depending on what we feel like that day anyway.  I'm guessing glitches would include flute and kilgore as the major ones?  I'm not sure of any other glitches really besides out of bounds ones that don't actually help for speed running anyway.
Also, I don't have any splits for Bayo, since I've only actually done a couple full single segment runs.

I was thinking just no flute glitch. Anyway, I've started on a wiki page about racing (http://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Bayonetta/Racing ) which you can contribute to if you want. I'm thinking PS3 offset will be about 15 minutes for an entire run, I'm not certain but it sounds about right. Are you guys up for a full any% race some time this weekend? About 10/11pm GMT start?
You accidentally included the last ')' on that URL.  Right now it points to nothing.

Ok, after this Single Segment run I'm putting the Segmented run on hold indefinitely because I don't think it's necessary anymore.

In Game Time: 1:37:37
Real Time: 2:32:34

Once we've figured out a few things, I'm probably ready to start attempts. Just need to figure out Golem fight (Fake does it differently) and test if that Clamminator's accidental discovery is faster and if it is, test how consistant it is. I don't really have a goal so it'll just be when I record one where every level goes well. Expect attempts to start soon~

I watched your live run. I seriously hope that you saved that live commentary, and will include it if the run gets through, because that was simply epic.

That video is saved forever on Twitch. I was planning on doing a new in-depth commentary for the SDA run. I guess I could add that one on as a second commentary.
