Hey Guys!

I have done a few NG+ Any% runs more than a year ago, and then suddenly stopped after only a short time because of whatever. That's why I guess no one will remember me Tongue

But still, I wanted to say that I've recently started running this category again!
Today, I improved my former time of 16:36 to a much better 15:55. Unfortunately, that was usually only a practice run for testing all this VSync/-nofixedstep stuff, which I figured costed me a lot of time in earlier runs. So I sadly didnt't record it Sad

But anyway, I'm enjoying the Bastion speedrun again and I am certain I will soon improve my 15:55 and even record it! Cheesy

So, as I promised, I improved my run in the last few days. Got a decent 15:17 after a couple tries and this time, I finally managed to record it and uploaded it on youtube.

Good run, good time. One thing that might not be obvious - on Queen Anne, it's better not to stand on top of the spot where she becomes active. Instead, stand just a few steps away from that spot, and when she reaches it, roll over her. This will allow you to stab earlier during her vulnerability period, and you should be able to get three pike thrusts and a musket shot in during that time. This will be enough to activate the Skyway so you can escape.

So an awesome guy going by the name Camtheman3245 (http://twitch.tv/camtheman3245) tweeted this highlight to me:

Basically, skip the current third, fourth, and fifth pike vaults in PB. As soon as you finish the second one (the really hard one), pike vault directly onto Zia's platform. This involves a mandatory fall, but the timing is really easy, and I've been able to replicate this several times. Not only will this save the time from those last pike vaults, but it will also remove the need for Black Rye, saving another bunch of seconds at the Bastion. Long story short, I think this is about a 20-second save. Sub-15 should be possible now.

I'll get to grinding when I get back from C4L!

(edit) It just occurred to me that this might make PB+WO faster than BQ for NG+. :O

So I did some timing for NG+ today. Here are some numbers:

Prosper Bluff in NG+: ~35 seconds (from selecting PB to exiting the level)
Prosper Bluff cutscene: 39.7 seconds (from exiting PB to traveling to next level - includes building a building at the Bastion)
Wild Outskirts in NG+: ~50 seconds (from selecting WO to exiting the level)
Wild Outskirts cutscene: 39.0 seconds (from exiting WO to depositing the first core)
Total: ~2:44

I timed Burstone Quarry in both RedBuddha's current WR and my PB, starting from selecting the level and ending upon depositing the first shard. In my PB, it was 2:51.3. In the WR - which didn't fall in BQ, had one jump Lunky, and quick death during the invasion - it was 2:46.5.

Long story short, PB+WO are around 2 seconds faster than BQ for NG+, even counting the fact that you have to sit through extra cutscenes and build another building. Also, you don't have to deal with Lunky RNG. However, assuming you're not capable of doing the PB pike vaults, BQ is not going to be substantially slower unless you get trolled. WO time can also probably come down with a little more movement optimization and critting the pincushions or something.

I had a crazy run yesterday. I was doing NG+ any% runs and usually wanted to take the new route. I was using Livesplit for the first time and didn't import my splits yet, so I pretty much had no idea how far ahead or behind I am. Somewhere in the middle of the run I realized that I was doing very well, which made me rethink my route, so I would still go to Burstone Quarry, since I was scared I did not pratice the PB pike vaults enough.

Turns out I was rewarded! Got a no jump Lunky and a fast invasion, which made me improve my PB to 14:43 (split says 14:44 but that final split was very late). I'm really happy with that! Smiley

Nice Thrice! I was doing NG+ any% runs last night too, and got a pretty good run going. Was on pace to be 14:53, but then I talked to Ruks like a champ, and it ended up being 15:01 instead. Oh well, I plan on practicing the NG+ specific vaults and actually getting consistent in that cat. Well, true to my word I practiced the HG, CF, and PB pike vaults a bunch, and did a bunch of runs tonight. I managed to put together a really good run, except for a terrible CC where I fell 3 times. Ended up being a 14:34. I'm kind of hesitant to post the highlight since I want to grind more over the weekend and improve on it, and also I sound like an ass during and right after CC, but whatever. And what, Vulajin just posted his new WR while I was writing this holy crap. Nice dude, congrats.

All right, got a new PB for NG+ any% of 14:22. Pretty solid run, except I failed the new RL text skip, and also fell off the Bastion, which all told cost me about 4 seconds. Le sigh. Anyway, here's that highlight. http://www.twitch.tv/feralpigman/c/4237875

As for the new RL text skip, here's a highlight of that: http://www.twitch.tv/feralpigman/c/4237891. It's really easy to do, and saves about 1.8 seconds. This at least doesn't require any certain build order, so that's also nice.

Today I was streaming NG+ runs, and not only did I improve my PB by the huge amount of 1(!) second (http://www.twitch.tv/thrice727/c/4268151), but I also found a new skip and possible timesave. I tried to skip entering the distillery in the beginning, since you don't need any drinks from there anymore. And then I found a pike vault which could make this possible.

Was talking to FeralPigMan then and we're not sure yet if it actually saves time, because it looks like you have to fall for the skip to happen, and there will be the long delay after falling since it will probably be the first time to fall in wharf district. But then again, not having to open and close the distillery + not having to walk the short distance after the arsenal might make up for that time.

So let me know if you have some thoughts regarding this!

Just take your first fall intentionally right after activating the fountain at the beginning. It becomes a little tight, but you can fall, pick up the fang repeater, and get back to the fountain in time to kill the squirts easily with some practice. Then the skip you've shown is almost certainly faster than opening the Distillery and rolling the long way.

However, this does sort of throw a wrench into my plans for an HG text skip in NG+. We'll see whether I can still find something.
