EDIT: Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament is scheduled as of now for Thursday January 7th from 5pm - 8pm in tournament room. More people are always encouraged, let me know if you definitely can't join.

I was thinking of setting up a Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament during AGDQ. Wanted to see if anyone was interested.
Thread title:
I'm definitely in for a Tecmo Super Bowl tournament.
I can provide a Gen 1 Genisis w/ RGB Cable and HDMI up scaler, plus TSB 1 and 3
Oh, and two original *wireless* genesis controllers w/ receiver, first-party
i'd be down!

Original or an updated roster?
Hey, my thought is for the original NES Tecmo Super Bowl and rosters. I know there is an annual tournament (tecmomadison.com) so we could use similar rules to that. I wasn’t really sure that many people would be interested, so if we don’t have 8+ people that want to play, then this thread can just be for people that want to play tecmo for fun in the casual room during AGDQ. This could include the updated roster versions or Genesis versions. I haven’t played the Genesis version (played a few of the SNES games), but I would be down to play you in that a few times on the side and find out what Nintendon't...
I am down to play some TSB
i'll join that for sure
Dapper as fuck.
I would be down.  What version are we looking at so I can get in some practice? Smiley
Nice, seems like we have enough people to have a small tournament. I am thinking for the date/time the best would either be Thursday evening or Friday morning/afternoon. I will also probably be around Tuesday night and early on Saturday. For now, lets just assume it is on Thursday around 5pm - 8pm, so if that day is bad for anybody let me know and we can consider one of the other slots. (Those other slots are probably times I will be hanging around and playing games also, so if anyone wants to play some random TSB games or Mickey Mousecapade Money Matches during those times let me know)

I am assuming that the tournament room will have at least 4 TVs and there will be at least 4 NES consoles to use, so hopefully that is correct. I can bring a copy of TSB and have a flash cart, but if a few other people can bring the game that would be helpful.

The version is Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES, released in 1991 (the only other similar NES game is Tecmo Bowl, which isn't as good).

Dapper as fuck.
I can bring my flash cart.  Thursday night might be an issue for me depending on when Mega Man 9/10 is that night.  I can't check the schedule from work.  I can bow out if that's the only time that works though.
I've never played TSB competitively, but I'd love to try, since I played the game quite a lot back in the day.
Just and update that we will go forward with having the TSB tourney for Thursday evening. Philosoraptor: Looking at the schedule, Mega Man 9/10 is a different day and the tourney should be at the end of the Mega Man X and ZX block.

Seems like there is a decent amount of interest in a Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament and if we are a little short, the we can probably pull in some people at the event to get to 8 or more. Current plan is to have the tournament on Thursday January 7th from around 5pm - 8pm (let me know if this date/time is bad for you). I am thinking this can end up being a little earlier or later depending on dinner, not sure if we are allowed to just do pizza and beer or something in the room. I will look up some more basic rules for how the TSB tournaments go and post some other info when I get a chance, but it doesn't really need to be too formal.
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.

Food is not allowed in any area except the hospitality room. Alcohol isn't allowed in any event space (keep it in the bar or your room).

Yeah I was going off an incorrect bit of info on that regard.  I personally should be good for that timeframe, I have no volunteer or commentary activities on Thursday.

Run schedule for Thursday during that time looks pretty tame from a tech perspective (couple of 2 way races so nothing hugely complicated) so I should be open for that.
Hey Whitman, I'm down.

If you can’t make it, no worries. If you know someone else that wants to play, feel free to invite them. Hopefully we end up with at least 8 players, but will make it work regardless of the number.

I am assuming that nobody is a pro tecmo player on the side, so we will all probably be somewhat close in skill level. Depending on the number of people involved we will do some kind of intro round to get seedings and then do a single/double elimination tournament. For the tournament matches, it seems like the best way to do this is have a coin toss, then whoever wins can decide to either select the two teams in the matchup, or they can choose which team they control. So, one person chooses the two teams playing and the other person picks which one they want. (I will bring a list of some team rankings, offense/defense/overall, but this method should lead to relatively even matchups).

I reached out to World9 Gaming and they said I can talk to them when I get there about NES consoles to use. There should be numerous CRT TVs in the tourney room so that should be fine. I am not sure about TSB carts or controllers through World9, so if you have a copy of TSB to bring that would be helpful (having 5 total would be ideal, I will bring one copy plus a flash cart) and it will probably be good to bring your own controller as well.

Can’t wait for AGDQ, look forward to meeting everyone and hope you all have a safe trip.

Some other rules taken from a Tecmo website:

Coin Flip (winner can either choose 2 teams, or defer and pick their team)
Team Selection (can only choose the same matchup once in pool play, and once in bracket play)
Custom Playbooks allowed
Only one time per half can you check Change screen to see player status and make substitutions
WR/TE cannot be substituted as a RB (reverse/end around plays are fine)
No ties, after OT a new game starts and first to score wins, whoever got ball in OT, kicks in new game
Lurching is not allowed (If you want to rush with a DL, you must either go outside the offensive tackle or “popcorn” someone on the offensive line. Note that this rule does not apply to LBs)
