@Cabbage: The one thing I can answer is that the 4700 health thing is part of the UI mod they use. :>

And that thing at the start of Nihilanth is the result of savescumming. He is killed by shooting him once per frame on the very first frames you enter the room.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
why 720p 120fps is smaller in size than the 60fps one?
Awesome run, great job guys!
The Dork Knight himself.
This run is jaw dropping from start to finish. Hell you guys even made the worst area of the game (Xen) into a really entertaining section. Awesome job.

That's a good question. Maybe the encoder is bad at handling >60fps. I hope it's true 120fps and doesn't have lots of drop frames.

edit:
Is this a TAS (slowmotion, something like this)?
This is most beautiful thing I've seen in my whole life.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
gonna make me a marathon viewing of all the old runs before i finish it off with the 21 one, have not seen them for a very long time :3
i think that's nine videos in queue. i love watching tricks and routes changing throughout the history.
F*ckin' sanity effects...
Amazeballs.
This is the best speedrun of any game I have ever seen. Ever.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
my brain is no more. thanks.

Watching now. Just got to the skip at the end of Anonmalous Materials. What even just happened?!

Definitely looking forward to some full commentary. Smiley

Edit: Okay, I had to rewatch the beginning of Office Complex to understand what the hell happened. You object-boosted just before the map transition and kept your speed upon arriving on the new map? Awesome.

Edit 2: The scientist at the start of We Got Hostiles is a little confused about how to run away from a grenade. Smiley

Edit 3: Alright, I've rewatched it 3 times and I don't understand how you survived the fall down the elevator shaft at the start of Blast Pit. Is it some sort of abuse of stair-mantling code? Like you hit the ledge from the side and below in a way that makes the game treat it like you're stepping up onto a slightly higher surface, like climbing stairs?

Edit 4: I swear that green slime shortly after killing the Blast Pit boss isn't supposed to boost you along that quickly. Framerate-related? Or are you object-boosting while in water?

Edit 5: I have absolutely no idea how you teleported at the start of Power Up.

Edit 6: Was the tripmine on the doors before launching the rocket just a sexy way of doing an explosive boost later, or was there something more going on there that I missed?

Edit 7: How'd the rotating spray work while being captured? Does your view just get rotated anyway as part of some falling down animation in a sequence that was later removed from the game?

Edit 8: The headcrab boost in Residue Processing is beautiful.

Edit 9: The guard whose head you boost off in Questionable Ethics... was killing him during the boost just for fun, or are you getting flicked into the air by his death animation? I think it's the former and the combination of a jump off his head plus the shotgun boost is what gets you the height, but if it's the latter, then that's awesome.

Edit 10: Huh, I'm unfamiliar with this glitch, but how come we can see your full health when you use the door of healing? I swear when I saw that glitch in AGDQ, we saw coolkid's health mod 256.

Edit 11: Hmm, is that human mouse movement I see for throwing the nade behind you while underwater? Why no script?

Edit 12: What's that noise like a buzzer at the start of Nihilanth?

Okay, that was awesome. Congrats, guys. Smiley

I like these along-the-way edits.
1 Correct!
2 It's actually not teh grenade that worries him. See this video and description.
3 Similar.
4 At some places there is a trigger_push in or just above the water to simulate water flow on entities like barrels, boxes and players. By crouching very rapidly, you can use this pushtrigger many times. To achieve best boost, you can use a duck loop script and also higher fps (ex. 200fps, twice as many ducks, twice the boost). The trick is useful in Residue Processing and Blast Pit toxic waste.
5 The maps are overlapping each other. I enter the trigger_changelevel but I'm able to put the transition on hold by running an alias with waits (ie script ;wait;wait;wait;). During this time I reposition myself to where the maps overlap. Once the alias ends the transition will occur normally like the trigger would be wherever I'm standing.
Here's the map joined together in the map editor to demonstrate the overlap.

6 The tripmine is actually used to jam and reverse the doors for faster closing. It's the jam that makes the funny noise : >
7 You get teleported to a blank room behind and you can move freely.
8 One of my favorites. Probably because it's an area that never been visited in speedruns before. Found by SW btw.
9 Jumped on his head and got a boost just enough to reach the balcony. And shot him in the head just after to easy the escort of the scientist later. The magnum shot before entering the room had to be made to make the guards stop and run in the patterns as they did. Found by coolkid.

Look at the bitrates and you'll see that the 60 got slightly higher. It has nothing to do with the framerate. There is certainly no dropped frames in the video itself. Maybe during your playback though.
Up to you to define a TAS. It's all done in realtime but split in 317 segments, using lot of scripts and saveglitches. And I don't think I gotta fingerpoint that a lot of time was put into this.

Tonight at 20:00 CEST me and coolkid will stream a commentary about the run at http://twitch.tv/dabigbooi

Pretty fantastic. Going from 4700 health down to exactly 1 showed the impressive planning and the whole run had really impressive execution. There were multiple times where I was like "hold on, now what just happened to get you here"? Looking forward to the edited explanation video (which I assume is coming?) I think you could make that one two hours long, almost.

Bunny hoping, map exploitation, health bug. Using unrealistic physics at that time to your advantage. I don't think this is a legit speed run. Freeman isn't Superman for god sake!

Not a speedrun, just nothing more than abusing an endless amount of cheats/glitches. Disappointed I got tricked into giving this a view.

I don't like this video at all. You are using glitches to destroy this amazing game. You seem very bored and the magic of half-life is gone from your spirit. Please stop glitching video games. If the developers wanted you to do what you do they would have told you about this! Glitching is cheating and if you don't stop glitching I'm gonna call the glitch police. My dad works for Valve and he is going to tell Gabe Newell about this if you don't stop this glitching! It's like getting outside of the map in CoD and shooting people while you cannot be killed!! I have to stop watching because I don't want you to ruin my experience with this magical game! You'll be sorry when Valve gets their secret illuminati to come and wipe your miserable ass off the face of the planet!

I actually already knew this - the thing I was missing was much more obvious, but I figured it out. I was assuming the spray was on a wall, but in fact it is (I figure) on the floor.

By the way, one more question. The rapid-fire thing you do against the final boss (and with the crowbar early in the game) - as I understand it, you just save and load and it resets the cooldown between shots? Why couldn't you use that to kill the headcrabs in the duct in Office Complex faster?

BTW, the audio commentary was incredible. Cheers, guys.
