1080 Avalanche is a notoriously difficult snowboarding game for the gamecube. It raised the bar in realism and features numerous courses and challenges. What makes it so difficult is the unlock system- in order to stand a chance in Match Races beyond Normal, you must complete Gate Challenges and collect coins in Time Trials to unlock better boards. This makes the game longer and more difficult because these challenges are tough- Unlocking special boards from Gate Challenge requires you to get first place to earn a trophy, meaning the game will tolerate very few misses. Each character's subsequent tiers of boards must be unlocked through Time Trial, not by getting a best time, but by collecting 5 pieces of a coin hidden in annoyingly obscure locations. While going downhill at a high speed with no ability to reverse. The boards unlocked in Gate Challenge are the best, and coins collected or Match Races won through use of special Gate Challenge boards count. They aren't valid for Gate Challenge mode though, as they are considered cheating and will disqualify your score.

The requirements for All Unlocks are that you complete every Gate Challenge (unlocks the rocketship board, the best in the game), collect every Time Trial Coin (unlocks alternate textures for all regular boards) and complete Normal and Hard match race once before completing Expert and Extreme with all 5 characters to unlock their alternate costumes (Expert) and alternate characters (Extreme).

Time begins when you select "Continue without saving" (the memory card should be out until the end if you want to save it) and ends when you unlock the final thing, whatever it is.

Good luck!
