Hey, Kad...Why did you send mail to me? Why don't you write HERE?
You like sharing and running what you found of, don't you? Share your PSP-system-software-version. 5.02 OK?

I think that these differences influence their performances. If you have a PSP with older system, you should better not to update it.
My PSPs (2000 & N1000) are both latest ver.6.60, and their Fast-Reading-Mode never work only in Disc2. In Disc1, it's effective obviously.
My recent test run on PSP(Fast-Reading) was about 1h15m faster than last year run on PS3 in Disc1. However, in Disc2, PSP was just 7s faster than PS3. There is no doubt in my reasoning. Fast-Reading-Mode on latest PSP doesn't work in Disc2 for Xenogears.

I predict that I can beat this game in 18h40m or so on latest PSP. Because of Disc2, my circumstance is not fastest. If you have a older PSP or SCPH-50001, you can beat this game in 18h30m or so, I think.
Meteor Swarm
the Deus glitch was not very common on the psp revision ? If yes , even with very low chance it sound dangerous to run this game on a psp.
Richardo Banderas Kingdom
Hi, Rezard.

I have 7 Playstations. They are SCPH-7000(PS1), 50000, 70000, 90000, CECHB00(PS3), PSP-2000 and N1000. I made sure that those which Fast-Reading work cause freeze at the battle against Deus in Mahanon. For example, among my own machines, only SCPH-50000 cause freeze.
I don't know why FR doesn't work only in Disc2 on the latest PSP. I can say for sure that Deus freeze occur with SCPH-10000 to 550xx within the range I can know. And Kad's PSP with older system software (5.02) cause freeze.

For Xenogears, FR can work on PS2 (PSdriver 1.0x ; before SCPH-550xx) and Portable (PSP-1000 - VitaTV). And I used PSP-N1000(go) for this time run. However, in Disc2, FR isn't effective on Portable (latest version 6.60). This is for sure, I confirmed in my two devices (PSP-2000 and N1000 (both are latest 6.60).
By the way, SCPH-700xx is also the machine which PSdriver is 1.02. But on this thinner PS2, FR doesn't only work, but also never cause freeze at the battle against Deus in Mahanon.

Quote from Rezard:
If yes , even with very low chance it sound dangerous to run this game on a psp.

I don't know how dangerous, but I'm interpreted in two ways.

1. You hate or fear that freeze at the battle against Deus in Mahanon

You should better update your PSP latest. I comfirmed in my two devices (PSP-2000 and N1000 (both are latest 6.60)). However, on the latest version, FR can't work in Disc2. I think it's individual liberty update or not. And hate freeze or like FR.
Of course, Custom-FirmWare is out of the question.

2.The lack of equality due to the difference model.

It's difficult but this game has it originally. The fastest model I have is SCPH-50000, and slowest is CECHB00. The difference between the two models is around 1h20m. Even with the same 'PS2', SCPH-90000 is about 35m slower than 50000, and 100xx-390xx are about 15m slower than 50000.
The problem of model differences for Xenogears is not avoidable, but there is no sense in my mind such a thing because Xenogears is a game like that, I think.

#2: (Kislev - up to Zeboim outward journey)
#3: (Zeboim return path - up to the end of Disc1)
#4: (the beginning of Disc2 - up to THE END)

If you want videos before uploading to YouTube, you can get them from my Google-Drive. (6.98GB in total)

I should have disclosed most information I have in this.
I'm not curious about 'WR' to be certified by SDA.
I wish someone here achieve sub1830. Good luck !
If you have a SCPH-50001 and Discs, you can beat this game sub1830, I think. (rely on Deus)

but it's not a record to be surprised.
I've continued to claim that you can beat this game in 18h30m or so with SCPH-50001 since last year.(http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/199365-xenogears/63560194)
and PSP is just as well fast model as it.

I think this record is a kind of milestone or a model for US Xenogears speedrunning.
Next up is your turn =P

>puwexil

Nice to meet you. I sometimes watch your streaming.

I'm very flattered because SDA regards Xenogears speedrun as pronoun of boredom.
unfortunately, now I'm not interested in so-called 'WR' to be certified by SDA.
and I've already erased the original huge-material(500GB/Huffyuv) from my HDD.

I expect that someone here achieve sub1830, so please give the same proposal at that time. Thanks a lot Smiley

Postscript : the end of SSwR is around 12m15s earlier than RTA. so this record is sub1830 in a sense. aim for sub1820 under SSwR
Even if most people don't want to watch a 20 hour "speedrun" of mostly cutscenes (like Xenogears), I like Xenogears and run Xenogears =D
Richardo Banderas Kingdom
Oh, I was wrong... today, I saw johannhowitzer's streaming. his device is 'SCPH-77001' which PSdriver is 2.00. and his OP (NewGame - Fei:Whew!) took 3m49s !!! PSP takes 3m57s or so.

In Japanese version, 1.02FR is definitely faster than 2.00. but in English edition, 2.00 is maybe faster.

PS1 games are usually faster on newer devices, however Japanese Xenogears isn't similar, so I researched model differences and used SCPH-50000FR.

SCPH-90000 is faster than others in some kind of 'Crowded situations'. for example, vs Vierge, around Dora, Kislev Purge, vs Alkanshel etc...
On the other hand, 1.xx models are faster than 2.00 in the scene conversion.
in Japanese edition, this 'Scene conversion' has more impact than 'Crowded situations', so 1.xxFR is faster than 2.00.
However, in English version, it appears that 'Crowded situations' have much larger influences.

in 'Crowded situations', 'Text display speed' is slow. and English edition has very much more letters than Japanese. so in English version, 2.00 is faster?? I think so...perhaps.

OK. Assuming that it is right. I predict that you can beat this game sub1800 so easily. now I'm interested in the model differences for US Xenogears. but I can't investigate them 'cause I have no US-PS2.

PS-Driver 2.00 models are from SCPH-75000 to 900xx. good luck

You might not understand what I'm saying? OP in Japanese edition are below.

3m14s Portables Fast-Reading(FR)
3m15s Portables Normal-Reading(NR)
3m16s 1.02FR (SCPH-500xx & 550xx)
3m18s 1.00FR/1.01FR (SCPH-100xx to 390xx)
3m21s 2.00 (SCPH-750xx to 900xx)
3m28s 1.xxNR (SCPH-100xx to 550xx)
3m31s SCPH-70000/PS3(CD)
3m35s PS1
3m37s PS3(PSoneClassics)

OK? and my records are below

[4G strategy]
15h41m43s 1.02FR (2012/08/13)
16h13m04s 2.00 (2012/08/03)

[3G strategy]
16h23m27s 2.00 (2011/06/05)
17h07m34s PS3CD (2011/05/07)

ok? difference of a few seconds in OP will expand several tens of minutes difference at THE END
so the '8s difference' between PSP and 2.00 will expand...ok?

Richardo Banderas Kingdom
and I've confirmed the border whether freeze occur or not.
I had mentioned 'Stationary machines', from SCPH-10000 to 550xx cause freeze, and FR can work on those devices. in short, "FR can work" = "freeze may occur"

about Portables, Xenogears is playable with system software version 3.52 or later. and up to 3.80 cause freeze, but fast.

2008/Jan/30 system software version 3.90 released
2008/Jun/25 system software version 4.01 & Japanese Xenogears (Game Archives) released
2011/Feb/22 North-American Xenogears (PS one Classics) released (6.37 at that time since 2011/Jan/20)

from the above, usual players didn't experience freeze with PSP. but KadMony's PSP is 5.02...??? yeah, he is using CFW, in other words, MODIFIED PSP. maybe it's 5.02 GEN-A because it's French.
I've given him a margin for excuse, but he did not respond to it. so I accuse.

Among Portable devices, PSPgo and VitaTV are officially available for an official external wireless controller.
The firmware of PSPgo is certainly 5.70 or later, but he had been using an external wireless controller in his vid(#2 around 1:13:20). I've suspected him since then.
indeed, there is a device which enable us to use external controller with OFW. however, that's also a kind of CFW as same as PAR, so I cannot accept them as well as SDA.

well...why his PSP cause freeze in spite the system is 5.02 ? It's so simple. If you use 'Remote Joy' plugin, your PSP cause freeze even if that system is latest 6.60.
I modified my PSP-2000 into a 6.60ME-1.80 machine 4 days ago, and research CFW. It's interesting so so.

Hey Kad, though I don't have so much knowledge about CFW, you must restore your PSP to Official-FirmWare if you can.
By doing so, you'll be able to compete on an equal footing, and not only that, Deus freeze can not occur anymore.
It's a waste in this state because some your optimizations are great.
You're a Mathematician, you deal everyday with canonical things/concepts, non ? Why don't you deal with a canonical device ?

OK? SCPH-10000 to 550xx and PSP system software version 3.52 to 3.80 cause freeze at the battle against Deus in Mahanon.
in English edition, 2.00PS2 seems fast, so I think you should use SCPH-75001 to 90001 models.(fast and never freeze)
but I think it's better to investigate SCPH-50001 and 55001, too. ah...I think probably 2.00 is faster in English edition because Portables are the fastest device of 1.xx systems.

sounds good! rudy! THE 'WR' is already in your hand Smiley (or others who has 2.00)

my friend 'tamama' has a SCPH-77000 and experiment that model. its behavior is as same as my 90000. (it's natural because both are the same 2.00)
and we have confirmed that FR can't work on the 2.00 models.

from my records above, It's obvious that FR can't work on 2.00. (both are with 90000)
(4G strategy) 16:13:04 (2012/08/03) - Normal Reading / DUALSHOCK2
(3G strategy) 16:23:27 (2011/06/05) - Fast Reading / HORI Autofire(20/s)

but I can't verify US edition. FR might work by some chance in English version even on 2.00.
I think probably FR also can't work on 2.00 in US edition. please check by all means.

I see you took Gold Bullion out of the second Nissan visit but I can't figure out what you did to replace it. I'm curious how you managed to get around that 4k.
Richardo Banderas Kingdom
rudy, 4k ? no no, It's about 25k reduction in total from last year run.

Main targets are Gears' of course. I thoroughly calculated which battle, what Engine/Frame/Armor/Response need, how dangerous etc...
based on my hypothesis about Hit/Eva calculation (this is an amendment of ForteGSOmega's [http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/199365-xenogears/faqs/58934])

Character Hit% = 80 + HC
Gear Hit% = 75 + HC
Dmage Reduction% = 25 - HC

HC = Attacker Hit - Target Evasion + BHC (Forte's 'Monster List' [http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/199365-xenogears/faqs/58933])

[BHC]
T = 60 / S = 10 / X = 0 / enemies' = 10 (I don't know HyperMode / 7APdeathblows)
Billy's S and X = 30 / Renmazuo's S = 50

of course, there is a possibility the value is slightly wrong because it is an investigation by hand. (around 10,000 times)

When Gear attacks against a Character-sized enemy, Response value is ignored. (e.g. Small Gun with Kefeinzel / Grarf on Goliath)

There are some enemies that has a specification of Avoid-Ring or Guardian-Ring (and Defense-value).

Avoid : Carrier, Id, Amphysvena...etc.
Guard : Shellbelle, Aegisknight, Fis.6, Seibzehn...etc.
Defense-value = 2 : Calamity, Aegisknight, Schpariel, Dora, Fis.6...etc.

Rings increase Evasion by 20 (not 40)

It's one of the most difficult thing to consider the battle against Kefeinzel & Dora. (whether you need Gold Bullion, Nugget or not)
(other difficult things are learning Raijin, Mirror Stance, Redrum, Ramshao, Id, all of Shevat, Grarf & Executioner, and controlling Accessories' column.)
there is no longer need to get a Gold Bullion or Nugget in my new fund-management. so you can select the way of beating them as you like.

vs Kefeinzel video (sorry in Japanese) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B47a689AD5bkZ0ZLRTktOTExY28/edit?usp=sharing
(played on SCPH-90000 / Odd Main Gun is natural with 2.00 devices (PS3 + CD is also 2.xx))

the balance between Response and Agility is the reason why these battles are difficult.
the more C circuit, the shorter time  you take against Dora.

around 1m50s (AGL16 ; C circuit +1 is necessary)
around 2m05s (AGL14 ; C circuit *3 / my former run / if I get +1, I select this AGL ; C circuit +1 & C circuit & Magnetic coat)
around 2m20s (AGL12 ; C circuit *2 & Magnetic coat / my this time run)

however, as I described yesterday, Gear Hit% = 75 + HC, and Fei's Hit is around 17 (15 + 2(glasses)) at this point. (of course rely on your luck(13 - 17))
Main Gun's Evasion is 1, Small Gun's is 0, Dora's is 5.
so, you can surely hit Weltall's X attack against Dora with 13 Response or more. and against Main Gun, you need 9 or more to hit X attack surely.
against Small Gun, Character Hit% is used. and Response is ignored. Furthermore, the damage of X attack against Small Gun is 585 - 625. (Small Gun's HP is 590)
my former run was too lucky to refer. I concluded my present hypothesis is correct this April.

above times are in the shortest. if you miss once, it costs about 8s. if you miss twice, it costs about 15s.
I think it's a kind of matter of preference whether you like speed or stability. I like stability more. Good luck all Smiley

I've been looking into doing a segmented run since I rarely have time to do a single segment run. Seeing this much of a difference makes me want to really go back and try and take a deeper look at funds for a segmented run. I'd have to find an item that takes less than 30 seconds to get that is worth at least 1150. I've never really looked into funds management at this point, but now I'm kind of intrigued.
Richardo Banderas Kingdom
I'm back.
I bought SCPH-75001 last fall. to be honest, I wanted to buy 77001 or later. hmm, all right.

Formerly, I said "if you use later PS2s, it's possible to beat XG sub 18 hours".
Now, I have a SCPH-75001, I think that it's impossible to beat XG sub 18 hours in Single-Segment rule.

PS2 is not so fast as i thought before. and, PSP is enough fast to aim at a good record.

Furthermore, for NA-XG, 'Fast-Reading-Mode' is effective not only on Fat-PS2s but also on Slim-PS2s.(for JP-XG, 'Fast-Reading-Mode' cannot work on Slim-PS2s.)
That means that 'Deus-Freeze' may occur on Slim-PS2s.(I've already confirmed.)

I haven't run yet with SCPH-75001, but I calculate that my target time will be 18h25m-30m.

OK, see you next time

Hi, lately I've been watching Cordellium (http://www.twitch.tv/cordellium) learning to speedrun this game. It's been all practice streams thus far, but when he arrived at Tower of Babel, of course there are the many skips there and lots of platforming to practice. He was having a hard time with the Outer Wall Skip, so I asked him to send me his saves and that I'd take a look at it...

Well, I didn't find much of anything useful, except one major thing:

Assuming that sub-pixels are involved (which they very clearly seem to be), if your sub-pixels are aligned, you do not need to jump in order get the skip. You can just simply walk/run to the right. Not sure if this would end up saving frames/seconds compared to jumping, but I did figure that out. Sadly, I wasn't able to figure out a way to guarantee the alignment of the sub-pixels or any certain visual cue tied to it, but hey, it's something right?

Not sure if the past and present runners are aware (I did show it to Cordellium), but I figured I'd share this here. I will ask Cordellium to make a highlight from his stream showing the skip being done without jumping as well.

If anyone is aware of an emulator with a TAS build for PS1, I'd be glad to do the footwork in figuring out a consistent setup for this skip. I just have no idea where I would find said emu build, and furthermore have no idea how to find values for positions.

Well, hope my little discovery helps. :>

And here's the highlight http://www.twitch.tv/cordellium/c/6179188

EDIT: I also found the emu, but I'm completely clueless as to how to set it up for Xenogears. Horrible flickering, can't make save states without crashing the emu, no idea how to pick plugins... help??
Using SeanCass and Cordellium's info I made my own highlight showing the most consistent+fast method of performing the skip: http://www.twitch.tv/thelcc/c/6196596

Holding down at the start and stopping when you touch the wall aligns your X coordinate to match up with the required increment to perform the skip.

I was talking to Cordellium a bit in his stream about testing this game on a PSTV. Suikoden 2 was tested by Omnigamer to run fastest on it compared to other hardware so it may be similar here.
