Yup, bringing this back. But making it broader and allowing anyone to bring up any kind of challenge they please.
Thread title:
By Destination, do you mean of the Final variety?  If so, why limit play to the one stage?

As for suggestions, this:

I see your point. How would random work for this list of stages? Yes I took them out of the Wiki page.

Fountain of Dreams
Battlefield
Dream Land (N64)
Final Destination

Overall, I like that tourney set up. But IMO, I think we should stick to the above stages as random and cut out the counter picking stages. But if anyone else thinks we should have them, just say so. Majority rules here.
I would enter. But no Yoshi's Story? And since when has Pokemon Stadium not been a random stage?

Every tournament I've ever been to has been those 6, with 4 stock and 8 minute timer, with counterpicks. Character switching goes as follows: loser picks stage, winner picks character, loser picks character.

You can definitly count me in. Ill let you decide the rules since it doesnt really matter to me.

^ This.

Ok, that is 2 for the following...

4 man stock with an 8 min timer

First round random stage of the following:
Fountain of Dreams
Battlefield
Dream Land (N64)
Final Destination
Pokemon Stadium
Yoshi's Story

Loser picks stage, winner picks character, loser pics character.

So is that gunna the format?

For stages are we gunna ban any stages from being picked? Are we gunna go with the list in the Wiki link? http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Tournament_legal_%28SSBM%29
Yeah go with the list of banned stages. As a Ganondorf, I'm sure you don't want to chase a Fox around Hyrule Temple shooting lasers at you for 8 minutes.

LOL

Ok then. if there are no objections by the time of the marathon, then I guess we have our rules set.

Actually, I have one more question. For the first match of every set, are we gunna go with a pre determined character for every one? That will help with counter picks for the first match.

Quits halfway
The 6 neutrals you have are good, but that smash wiki site has strange counterpick stages. The ones that most large tournaments go by are:

Brinstar
Corneria*
Green Greens*
Jungle Japes*
Kongo Jungle 64
Mute City
Poke Floats*
Rainbow Cruise

The ones with asterisks are sort of iffy imo, so you can take them out, but that's generally the "smashboards-approved" list of stages (at least back when I was still playing).

As far as first match character selection, that's not really an issue. Since it'll probably just be a mostly-friendly tournament, I don't think people will really be dicks about counterpicking. If it's a concern, there's a "double blind" rule you can call into effect any time. Basically, if you're worried the guy is going to choose his character based off yours, you call someone over, each of you tell that person the character you're going to choose (quietly), then you choose. That way neither of you know who the other will play until you lay down your selection. But, again, it's not something that's called very often.

It was just a thought, I know I will be going my best for it basically every time. I might feel the need to change it up every now and then.

So now we just need to settle on counter pick stages.

Corneria
Green Greens
Jungle Japes
Kongo Jungle
Kongo Jungle (N64)
Mute City
Onett
Poke Floats
Rainbow Cruise

Here is an idea, we roll with the stages listed. Each player chooses one that can not be picked for that set at the start of the set. If both choose the same stage, then that is the only stage that gets cut from the list.

Sound good?
Yeah that's good Heidman, that's how it normally works. Each person bans a stage.
I might be tempted to enter as Game and Watch  Tongue

LOL, [9] hammer FTW
Last one I went to I took out a Falco with him, and no Judgment, I don't ever use Judgment.

Ok, I changed the first post for everything.

Also making a list for potential contenders, so if your on the list but don't want to play, let me know. If your not on the list and do want to play, let me know.

Again, this is turning out way better than I thought it was going to.  Grin

I agree with this.  I quit playing Melee "seriously" over 3 years ago.  I love playing, but I only play for fun now.  I won't be doing any 'counterpicking' or using any serious strategy for stage selection at all, to be honest.  I am going to use only Bowser for the entire tourney.  And during friendlies, too.  It's just way too fun!

Rules look good, though.  Should be a fun time.

Only Bowser? You gotta mix it up. Throw in a Mewtwo and a Yoshi... I play 25 out of 26 (sorry Ice Climbers) and chances are you'll see most all of them.

Oh, I'm most definitely going to be playing them all that week. ^_^ Just not in the 'tourney'.  I have the most fun using Bowser so i tend to use him when it counts.  Otherwise, I'll go with Roy, Mario, Gdorf, G&W, etc.  The only characters I refuse to use are Samus, Yoshi, and Peach, really.
Exoray
I've only played this casually but this might still be fun so count me in Smiley

Oh, and I play all characters.

Been a while since I've done Melee.  I'll probably get my ass kicked, but I'm game.

I'm the missing LINK.

I can help setup brackets too, if need be.
