Hey everyone. Ive been planning a Speedrun to defeat the sorceress in Spyro(3): Year of the Dragon. My first aim is to beat JamesBertolli's prototype run by atleast 10 minutes. You can see that here:

I did my first timed run today and got 1:35, losing by 2 minutes to Bertolli but I had many mistakes and I was also testing some glitches and things. My routes in levels also werent very good. So anyway, I plan to get sub 1:20 using this plan here:

100 Egg Plan

World 1:
Sunrise Spring – 5/5
Sunny Villa – 3/6 - 4:00 for both skateboarding, not doing them
Cloud Spires – 6/6
Sheila’s Alp – 3/3 300 Gems to Moneybags (I can skip with swimming in the air, but it seems better just to pay)
Molten Crater – 5/6 300 gems to Moneybags
Seashell Shore – 4/6
Mushroom Speedway – 2/3 Need these Gems for later, plus good eggs
Buzz – 1/1
Total: 29

World 2:
Midday Gardens – 5/5
Icy Peak – 5/6 - The Yellow thief can sometimes be annoying, but you can usually catch him in about 30 seconds - a minute
Sgt Byrd’s Base – 2/3 - 700 gems to moneybags. Again you can swim in the air but not needed.
Spooky Swamp – 6/6 - Seems best to battle Sleepyhead as he only takes around 1:10 including lighting lamps. 2:40
for the 2 bomb challanges, seems good enough to do.
Bamboo Terrace – 4/6 - Swimming in the air glitch to get the egg thief egg glitch
Country Speedway – 1/3 - Need gems for later (Probbaly best to skip if you can do swimming in the air easily or other moneybags skipping glitches. Replace with Haunted Tomb tank 1)
Enchanted Towers – 2/6
Spike – 1/1
Total: 26

World 3:
Evening Lake – 5/5
Fireworks Factory – 5/6 - Both Agent 9 challenges, get in using glitch. Only 2:20 for both
Lost Fleet – 2/6
Bentley’s Outpost – 3/3 (Skip with swimming in the air via "near death experience" in lost fleet, also get all outside eggs
In evening lake using swimming in teh air)
Frozen Altars – 4/6 (Get Bentley First for yeti Boxing 1)
Charmed Ridge – 3/6 - Jack and the Beanstalk challenge is not good, dont do it. Avarages at about 3:30 for both challenges -
600 gems to moneybags. Also can be skipped but very hard to perform
Honey Speedway – 0/3 - takes around 2 minutes to get in, get the egg, and get out
Scorch – 1/1
Total: 23

World 4:
Midnight Mountain – 5/5
Crystal Islands – 5/6 (Skipping moneybags here. See below
Desert Ruins – 5/6 (Skip the 800 gems)
Haunted Tomb – 3/6 - Tank Challenge 1 maybe an idea, can be 0:51
Dino Mines – 4/6
Harbour Speedway – 0/3 - assume the same as Honey Speedway, not tested
Agent 9 Labs – 0/3 - Might be an idea, but cost too much and eggs arnt too easy to get
Total: 22

Total: 100
Number of Gems needed: 1900

Technically it'd be a 101 egg run, unless it finishes when you land the last attack on the boss.

I'd advise against getting the two escort mission eggs from Spooky Swamp.
Yes, last attack on boss. Fo Spooky Swamp, If you know what things they run into then its very easy, and the eggs avarage at around 1:20 which is better than alot of other eggs in the game.

If this is segmented, you should be looking to skip every section where you have to pay except the first three home worlds. Even on a single-segment run, you should skip the Crystal Islands bridge, otherwise you'll waste minutes getting gems. If skipping that part of Charmed Ridge (arguably the harder of the two), it's a good idea to avoid paying the 300 Gems in the first part of the game.
Obscure games ftw
IIRC, swimming in the air would be ffaster if done from the Fireworks Factory.
It looks like a pretty solid route though, and swimming in the air is cool and faster if done right.
For Lost Fleet, I'm assuming you're getting the egg for clearing the level and the one in the acid on a side path.  The submarines are probably way too slow, as are the skateboarding ones (unless a glitch is found similar to the one in the Super Bonus Round)
@HalfMillennium
It isn't segmented, it's single segment. The Crystal Islands bridge is very hard to skip and it is not that hard to get 1000 gems really (seeing Im skipping other moneybags). You can easily get 1000 gems as you are running from place to place. And the 300 gems at the start of the game are also another tricky one to skip, and the fact that it takes around 30 seconds - 1 minute to do it, Id rather spending time getting gems than trying to do a glitch I might not make (if it was segmented, I would consider it).

@I have no name
Yes, you're lost fleet assumption is correct, and it will mean that I will end the level just outside the little acid pond I came out of to get the swimming in lava egg, making it a perfect place to use the swimming in the air. I dont know if its better to go to fireworks factory first or last though

It's not hard, no, but it requires time. If it takes more than three extra minutes to get the gems needed, you should consider going for it. If you're concerned about being able to skip the 300 gems payment, do that first. That way, you lose two minutes, tops.
Ok, Ive decided I will do the alternative method of skipping moneybags by Swimming in the air. Using this I can not only skip the 1000 gems, but I can do the other eggs alot faster.
Heres a video here of what I am talking about:

Theres also a trick in the slide minigame in the video

Just one thing. Using this glitch would probably mean it'd be a separate category to normal any% runs.
Well the swimming in the air is also used to skip Bentley (As well as Sheila and Sgt.Byrd but Im not skipping them), For an easy egg in Bamboo Terrace, and maybe somewhere else. So it is a part of my run and everyone who would do a spyro 3 run would use the glitch. I cant break the game with the glitch as there is no way to get from world to world using it, or face the last boss.

I think we'd better get the official word on that. If you're using the same gameplay-altering glitch repeatedly to skip what adds up to a significant section of the game (as opposed to, say, using it to get past one door), it might count as a 'major skip'.
Obscure games ftw
It would probably only be used to skip a few doors, and massively speed up the open Crystal Islands.
But if swimming in the air warrants its own catergory, go with the faster run, because SitA is coolness.

It can only be done in about 4 different places until after Sparx gets the Atlas warp ability, which would take waaaaaaay too long.
Im not using Swimming in the air as a major skip. Just a few minor skips (which all up would save me less than 10 minutes from an hour and a half run).
-Skip Bentley
-Get an easy egg in Bamboo Terrace
-Crystal Islands
-Maybe somewhere else if I think of it

The Atlas warp ability can only be gotton after defeating the sorceress, so that rules that out
Looking at the other runs when charging they jump. Is this faster?
They jump when charging
Not sure. I heard it's faster in Spyro 1, not sure about Spyro 3. I dont think so.

Anyway, I did a trial run with a crap load of bad mistakes, and I got 1:27 (its recorded), that beats JamesBertolli by 6 seconds. I want to get sub 1:20 before I even consider uploading it, even to youtube

fixed.
Also, it's slightly faster to charge jump (I've always refered to it as the 'gallop') up slopes in Spyro 3, but it's the same speed on level ground, and slightly slower down slopes.
You might want to use that technique in the run. I am actually in the planning stages and testing in Spyro: Season of Flame for the GBA. I have tested it and for that game at least it is slightly faster, if it works for that game which is later then I think it would be in that game. With the galloping  in all might shave 30-60 seconds off the total time, you would have to try actually doing it though to see how faster you will actually go for the game time. Happy to help.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
It might work, but I wouldn't assume it does just because it works on the GBA. Season of Flame uses an isometric view as opposed to being fully 3D.
I have a 1:21:30 recorded but I am sure I can get better than that but your route is very well planned but I would avoid getting bently by swimming in the air seeing how you can get enough gems when you enter evening lake also try practicing the charmed ridge glitch it is real helpful.

Using swimming in the air saves gems, meaning they don't need to be collected, saving time.
If you're talking about at Bamboo Terrace, it prevents a return trip.
