Heyyy

I am personally a casual flash games player. I believe it is so much fun sometimes, a game created by people with zero restrictions and stuff... Most of the time, also, the games are under 20 mins long, and you can restart to beat your own time again and again.

I am personally an Armor Games player and I believe many games are speedrunnable. Such as Phage Wars 2, or Super Karoshi. And I would like to know according to you, what games are worth casual speedrunning?

Waiting hurts my soul...
First one that comes to mind would be Fancy Pants, probably the second one is better since he got rid of much of the lag. Also, N is cool. I'd have to look back over the games I've played again, but that's all I can think of at the moment. I used to play on kongregate a lot, and played to collect badges there, so I've played a lot of their flash games.
I think speedrunning N or N+ was discussed before, to the idea that you'd have to run a batch of episodes for it to be different enough from the NUMA boards.  There used to be a site, freewareruns.com, that had a nice run of Fancy Pants Adventure World 1, and a damn good low% of Cave Story, and a few other games, but now it simply redirects here.

I'd like to see William and Sly done 100%.
The Running Failure
Do one of Sonny or Sonny 2, and you got yourself a happy man right here.

Waiting hurts my soul...
These are all on kongregate, I'm not sure about anywhere else

the Shift games
Portal Flash (I think someone is actually working or worked on a run for this)
Amberial: Nebulosa Realms and the sequel (or maybe this was the sequel, anyway, two Amberial games)
Line Game
Chronotron
Fold
Meatboy (not really my thing, but seems speedrunnable)
SeppuKuties
Achievement Unlocked (pretty short, although not much depth huh...)
I Love Traffic (probably not an often played game, but has potential I think)
Spewer
Don't Look Back
Closure

These are puzzle games, so once you know the fastest solution the time difference won't be much:
Excit
Open Doors (and sequel)

Not sure if it's runnable (if I remember the levels are timed), but should get a mention:
Areas

There are probably a few others, but I haven't played many of the ones that came out this year.

I think that was done after it was decided SDA now accepts freeware runs, but I think the runners should be contacted to see if they could submit their old runs. I remember watching a good run of the Art of Theft game.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
It's not speedrunnable at all, but my favorite Flash game of all time (although I am far from an expert) is Loop, made back in 2001. It's an endless game (I think) about using your mouse to draw loops around butterflies to catch them. Doesn't sound too exciting but actually it's awesome.

LLCD, who runs freewareruns.com, decided to put in the redirect to SDA since we accept freeware games now, and because the fwr.com site is kinda embarrassing-looking with the total lack of updates and activity and such. However, you can still access it here: http://www.freewareruns.com/index2.php

I'd definitely love to see some of those runs here, like the fwr.com crown jewel, Cave Story. Out of the others, the fwr.com Merry Gear Solid is passing verification right now, and Kaiten Patissier (not the IL's on fwr.com) is being submitted. The KP IL's are improved for tons of stages, so I wouldn't watch anything existing currently on either fwr.com or youtube, and just wait for KP to go on SDA.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
As a counterpart to the Cave Story colossus, I'd love to see a speed run of An Untitled Story, which is and always will be my absolute favorite freeware game.

Go play spacechem !
I dont really like competition flash games because the score depends on the game mechanics who depends on the system specifications. I'm sure not all flash games are equally coded but i've see some distinct advantage/disavantage depending on the system used (game slow enough to perform some hard actions or rapid enough to have proper physic calculations)

Anyway i would be glad to see a speedrun of desktop TD ^^

I've done "This is the only level" in under 5 mins this morning, without any practice, but I believe this game is worth it.

EDIT: Practicing a little gave me a 3:23:32, but this time can be beaten by more than 30 seconds still.

EDIT2: Yay, 3:11:25

EDIT3: 3:09:15... averagerly good run there, I'm glad of the time actually.

EDIT4: what the hell 3:00:62
Wak: In case you're not aware of it, in the walkthrough video linked from the game itself (This one) he says that he had a 2:59.57 with 0 deaths. Go beat him Wink

The song is awesome in that game.

Waiting hurts my soul...

I just got a 2:58:85 with 4 deaths, first playthrough was a little over 5 minutes. I'm going to watch that video to see if there's any more strategies I can pick up. Probably could take 5 seconds off for the deaths. (EDIT: nothing new gleened from the video, but I did find it funny that he ends that video at 3:55, yet he says he got 2:59. I guess he didn't record the better attempt.)

Finally got a no death run 2:46:37.5

Here's the notes I keep next to the screen while I was playing, should help to prepare you for the next level:

1 - normal
2 - left right reverse
3 - exit right away
4 - click the exit
5 - floaty
6 - extra bouncy
7 - bouncy spikes
8 - deadly stripes
9 - mouse control

10 - wind
11 - normal ?
12 - exit right away
13 - button mash left and right
14 - one jump
15 - exit right away
16 - push 5 times
17 - normal ?
18 - collapsing floor
19 - normal (stuttering)

20 - normal (no sight)
21 - striped gravity
22 - invisible wall (up top)
23 - H T control
24 - CAPSLOCK (exit right away)
25 - exit right away (on the 10s)
26 - exit right away
27 - exit right away
28 - normal (up close view)
29 - normal (timed exit)

30 - normal (screen goes black)

For 'normal' hold jump then hold right when the jump sound plays, sometimes you can jump off the pipe as you enter the level. Hit the switch and finish the level.

For 'exit right away' you'll want to start holding right as soon as you hit the ground (it gives you a little bounce). This should allow you to go right into the exit without jumping or hitting spikes.

You'll have to play through at least once in order to get no deaths the next time you play (so long as you don't refresh the page after you've done it that one time for level 15). The version of the game I'm playing on is 1.2 I think. Once you get back to that level the gate should already be unlocked.

The levels you could probably save the most time on are 5, 6, 9, 10, and 21. Level 25 has a psuedo lockout if you're late; the gate only opens every 10 second on the 10s. The earliest I've gotten it is 2:20, but I think 2:10 is possible with great execution on the other levels. With the lockout though many times are normalize since the last 5 levels are fairly straight forward.

I don't know why I keep playing this game... not like I'm actually running it

2:36:80 no deaths (passed the timed gate at 2:10 finally, good luck getting it at 2:00, I'm pretty sure that's possible)

more hints
Jumping earlier off the pipe is definitely faster for "exit right away" levels (except level 12 where jumping is disabled), the deadly stripes level, and the floaty level (possibly wind too, but I'm not sure how helpful it is).

button mash left and right doesn't seem to be so much about button mashing as getting the proper rhythm down.

Takes about 40 seconds from start to the screen going black (since you still have control of your character after you beat the boss). 39 seconds is my best after 5 attempts.

lots of fun flash games here; plenty can be speedrun

I'm speechless.
Waiting hurts my soul...

I time it at 35 seconds, but that's by stopwatch to slightly inaccurate. Things that I wasn't able to do is time the first jump after the wall closes behind you, and those short jumps up top to not lose forward movement. Good job. Are you going to submit it? Smiley

I kind of like the idea of speedrunning Super Karoshi (or any of the Karoshi games, for that matter).

I would also be interested in runs of these:

Time Kufc: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Edmund/time-kufc
MoneySeize: http://www.kongregate.com/games/YMM315/moneyseize (though I don't know if anyone would have the patience to try a 100% run...this game is brutally difficult)
Mindscape: http://www.kongregate.com/games/MINDistortion/mindscape
Spin the Black Circle: http://www.kongregate.com/games/AlejandroG/spin-the-black-circle
Hero's Arms: http://www.kongregate.com/games/BerzerkStudio/heros-arms (IMO, one of the best Flash games ever made)

I think these are all potentially good games to speedrun.  Any thoughts?
HAHA DISREGARD THAT.

On a different note, I ran some Flash games before. May upload segmented Medieval Rampage 2
Argh no you can't submit a proper speedrun of You Have To Burn The Rope - speedruns of YHTBTR are supposed to be several minutes long and full of obvious mistakes!

Are you requesting 5 minutes of slinging axes at the boss first?

Got :33 timing from clicking start to the start of the fadeout but it was done with a chronograph watch so not exactly super accurate Tongue
