I've been developing plans for a Soul Blazer run. Anyone ever hear of this game? If so, any ideas would be appreciated.

I also had plans for an Illusion of Gaia run, but can't seem to find my cartidge...

Yeah, a lot of people know and love that game.  It's more runnable than a lot of games, but not perfect.  I imagine there'll be interesting spots here and there.
I just finished my first practice segment (Grass Valley) with a time of 22'33". I died once, so I bet I can cut at least two minutes off. On to GreenWood!

Big Soul Blazer fan here - I might start it up and see what shortcuts can be found. The problem is that many of the areas require a linear activation of those "enemy nodes," or whatever they're called, in order to proceed.

I always thought the selection of music was excellent in this game, especially the first town (with the sad / saved themes).

Killer Chobocos don't get any chocolate.
Well... if you memorize which Lairs only open Optional locations (like a few of the mermaid dancers) you could probably go pretty fast... and most bosses are easy enough using Crabwalk as your primary attack... then you can power level at the end on those Iron Blocks right at the gate (theres 3 of them)
What system is this game for?

Honestly, I don't expect many shortcuts to be found, I'm simply going with as few enemy lairs activated as possible. The only problem I seem to be having is dying. There just aren't enough Medical Herbs in the dungeons to look really good (and my play style is way too sloppy.)

Oh well, I still have yet to thoroughly study all of the proper places to stand for each and every lair to get the computer to do Stupid AI Tricks. I suppose that would be a good thing after I finish ironing out my route.

EDIT: I just finished GreenWood with a time of 24:37. My fighting must have gotten a lot less sloppy because what what troublesome last night became quite easy.

That and I realized I was including the intro time in the Grass Vallley segment, making that time 22:11. So right now I'm sitting at 46:48 for the first two areas. I think I'll be aiming for sub-2:30, that seems easy enough.

As for power leveling at the end, of course I'll only be leveling up to 24, or whatever the minimum for the Soul Blade is.

And yeah, the music is awesome. Reminds me of J. S. Bach...

Oh my yes.

I also have fond memories of soul blazer. The music, the tasks, the worlds etc... I'd honestly like to see the game played well.
An interesting web article thingy concerning video game music, if you all are interested:
