Yes, we died in Death Egg 2. Sad The trick we do there requires really precise positioning and we missed it at the first try. Aside from that, there were also a bunch of other levels that were done poorly, so the target of 39 minutes is still on for now. Sub-40 is probably more realistic though.

This is probably a VERY VERY slim chance, but are any of the warp glitches from the co-op TAS that involve using Tails to fly at all possible in a normal speedrun?

Missed the FB2 slope glitch, which made me very sad. Sad We were 72 seconds in front at that point, which had us tracking for exactly 40 minutes.

And if I know what you're talking about, some of those tricks are actually very easy. Launch Base 1 has one, as does Sandopolis 1 and Death Egg 2.

So I decided that if we could hit the zip in Death Egg 2 then we might be able to hang onto the run. We hit it... and then died on the final boss anyway.

Probably wouldn't have kept it anyway, LR1 was 20 seconds slower thanks to a bunch of bad luck, FB2 similarly. Everything else I can live with, this run I'm obviously being much less picky about because we only have limited time to do it in.
Hang in there!  Just completing this run would be epic, would love to see you pull through with this.

I really need to stop losing my lightning shield on IC2 though, compare to the post above where I was 13 seconds faster (!).

...Maybe at this point, Tails should just not do anything during that section of the final boss? Seems like it'd help to keep you alive. <_<
In case some of you don't know who I am, I'm playing as Tails in the co-op run with mike89.

About the DE2 final boss not all of it is my fault. I will admit to one time that I hit the boss at the same time as mike causing him to die. However, a couple of times it has been mike's fault not timing his jumps right >_>. What happened in the 40:00 run, I was trying to hit the nose to set mike up. For some strange reason Tails wouldn't hit the nose, even though I was trying to make him aim at it Sad

You may have noticed that two minutes' improvement on LR2 there. Using a similar trick to the Flying Battery 2 laser boss skip I can actually bypass the boss of this level, which is a gigantic saving because it takes two minutes to do that boss. However, it takes time to set up and both moves (yes, there's two!) are quite tricky, so a time like 1:45 is unlikely to happen again.

And that's the good news.

The bad news are those + signs near the end of the run... especially the one on DE1. Sad

Wow at the DE1 death - after something like that, I think you guys get quite some recognition for not being too blinded by rage/disbelief to finish the run (without botching DE2, no less).

Anyway, you should definitely submit!

Still sitting on that co-op run for the moment, we haven't played since. At this stage it's unlikely we'll improve so that'll probably be the submitted run... which makes me die a little inside.

Anyway, I've still got the speedrunning bug so I switched over to the Tails run. Within an hour, I got this:

I'm not sure what makes me more mad, the fact that I died on the DE1 boss (despite playing a conservative strategy to ensure that didn't happen), or the fact that had I not died there, I'd have had a submittable run after just one hour.

Of course had I got 40:10 there is no way I would have submitted that, at that point sub-40 is inevitable. I also missed the LR2 level skip, which saves a minute. As far as I can tell, however, it is impossible for Tails to do the boss skip, so he has to take the two minutes to fight it.
its not impossible, just very very difficult.

CN1 - game didn't let me have the wheel glitch so I just played the level normally for a loss of about 15 seconds
IC2 - got hit by a certain enemy knocking me down to a lower level. Twice. And screwed up the boss for good measure.
LR1 - this level always goes really badly though so I'm kinda used to it. More importantly though, I missed the LR2 level wrap glitch which would save me a minute Sad

16:16 Sonic 3 half is 53 seconds ahead of my 40:08, and I still had the Lava Reef 2 skip potentially to come.

Then, at Sandopolis 1, I went for the level skip... and zipped the wrong way out of the wall. This is an unrecoverable position, you can't go back and attempt the zip again after this, so I had to play the level normally. This cost me a solid minute. D:

Played through the run anyway and got killed by a moving platform in Sandopolis 2 anyway. Attempts continue!
