'Elpis TK31' Hard mission skips, hard full, and Ultimate mode runs

Verifier Responses

MMZ runs ahoy!  A/V is fine on all.

Ultimate w/ warps:

This is a pretty straightforward run.  Intro level was fine, although he didn't need to get hit so much during the Golem fight.  Aztec Falcon's stage was fine, but the fight could have had better luck.  2x run away to skip the meat of the game.  Hanumachine gets owned.  Arcadia 1 is pretty fancy, but the two boss fights could have been better.  Uses a bird elf to skip a section of climbing and waiting.  The statue minibosses were handled very well.  Rainbow Devil could be faster but whatever.  Blizzack is quick, with a tiny miscalculation in damage.  Sattik the Elephant was pretty close to perfect.  Beetle McGrabbyhands seems faster than before, as I said he could be.  Anubis had a lot of needless damage, but it couldn't be faster.  Runner casts Aspergers on Leviathan for speed.  Phantom was a little unlucky, but it all went FAST so ok.  Fafnir went really quick with good manipulation.  Runner casts IBS on Harpuia to make that fight faster.  Last battle coulda been a touch faster if you can hit CopyX while he casts those rings.

Fast run.  Not many slip ups.  No mistakes, really.  Accept.

Normal w/ warps:

Intro stage was fluid, albeit in moonspeak.  Everything you would expect from a non-S run.  Aztec Falcon lead in was very action packed, what with the weather machines working with Zero.  Aztec was also quickly handled, although there was a missed slash at one point, which leads to MILLISECONDS OF MISTAKES.  Quits, invasion, and Hanumachine were all just as good.  Statues in Arcadia were really fast for how erratic that fight gets.  The miniboss woulda been faster with the sword throw attack but it's so late in an SS that the time lost seems ok.  Rainbow Demon was fast.  I need to stop saying 'fast' and 'quick,' lest they lose their effect.  Blizzack was faster here than he was in the Ultimate run.  Anubis had no flaws aside from a useless trap hit.  Lots of useless hits vs Ganesha.  Each of the Guardians seems to be kicking the runner's ass a little bit, so all could be improved by small amounts.  CopyX fights went well with very few hiccups.

Overall, this is just as good, if not better than the Ultimate run.  Easy accept.  I can't see more than a handful of seconds being shaved on this.

I'm having a hard time downloading the Normal w/o warps so I'll get back to you on it.

Got the Hard full run working finally.

M1: Standard procedure.  Takes hits on the way to the boss so that the saber drops immediately (duh).  Easy as pie.

M2: I bet the runner could do this mission with his eyes closed.  Great Aztec Falcon fight (it's even faster than the short run).

M3: The death abuse at Maha is perplexing, but the rolling attack that this skips chews up a lot of time.  Plus, it makes the lead in faster.  Only way to make the fight faster is to manipulate away the wrecking ball attack.  Escape sequence handles the doors very effectively.

M4: Dash dash dash.  On the second/third round against Anubis, the runner is able to land three hits from the ground and skip the recovery animation.  Is it possible to attack at an angle from the second dune and save some time that way?  Otherwise, this fight will always be the most boring one in the game.  On the other hand, escorting the injured guy back is the most fun any game could ever offer.

M5: Good exploit use on the midboss here. These things are the most boring enemies.  Same exploit used on the boss, albeit a little less effectively.

M6: Interesting skips in this level.  Lots of time shaved off, especially handling the boss.

M7: Useless tank fight!  The runner handles it very well, trading some damage for lots of punishment on the boss.

M8: Odd tactic for Phantom.  I can't remember if hitting the real him causes a time consuming attack on his part.  Also could have thrown the shield at the end for faster damage maybe.  Great timing with the platforms while collecting bombs, though.

M9: Can't you shoot open the cells from a distance?  Blizzack gets ruined fairly quickly.  Too bad he used the icicle attack three times instead of once.

M10: Silly shield ruins the boss fight a bit.  Oh well.

M11: I remember when I first saw the sub shortcut way way back in the day.  Good to see it again.  Leviathan was practically perfect.

M12: Jumped the gun on the boss here.  Not much time lost, though.

M13: Losing a tiny fraction of time in a collision would have been better than fumbling with the equipment that much.  Hanumachine was taken care of in a matter of seconds.  Poor little monkey dude.

M14: Ashura fight was great.  Everything else was MERELY OK.

M15: Good ascent.  Little sloppy on the Rainbow D.

M16: Every fight aside from Maha was as good or better than earlier.  CopyX got graped in the mouth and SeraphX was less than agreeable.

In the end, everything was pretty great.  Considering that this is an SS composed mostly of action packed situations, I would be pretty stupid to reject this.  The runner says it's improvable, but I can't see more than 10 seconds of flaws at the moment.  ACCEPTADOR

Ultimate w/ Skips:

On the intro stage fight, I forget the amount of damage you have to deal to trigger the Z Saber Get part, as well as how much time is spent. I say this cause he wasn't hitting the Golem very well. If time was the only factor, then disregard this. I can say, though, that his reaction time after getting the saber was pretty slow. Elpis jumps and hits the thing right away. (this is of course assuming Elpis didn't do this run, which going by the comments and the run using the English version, I'd say that's a safe assumption.)

His dialogue scrolling seems a bit slow, too. But maybe that's just me.

On the first mission, he misses jumping over the third totem enemy, forcing him to kill it. His Aztec Falcon fight was good, but his placement afterwards forced him to have to turn around to get the Thunder Chip.

The Hanumachine segment went very well.

He messed up on the elevator before getting to Neo Arcadia. The hit on the electrical thing could have been avoided. The Flyers went down really fast. His Asura Basura fight didn't seem too fluid; he missed a few times. Is using charge slashes all the time really better? Anchtorus went well.

Next stage was okay, except for the Devil. His slashing seems a bit slow, and the end looked very awkward.

I think the buster shot he fired on Stagroff was what caused him to have one HP left over after the charged saber hit. That might've actually been an accident. Very good on Ganeshariff. He missed an opportunity to hit Anchtorus while he was in the air. Necromancess was perfect.

Had a mishap while jumping before getting to the Big 4. Leviathan was okay. Missed once on Phantom. I don't think the double slashing worked too well on Fefnir. Harpuia was okay. X was pretty icky. Seraph X was good.

He used Cyber Elves to cut Leviathan's and Harpuia's health in half. Are those really the best ones to use them on? I would think Necromancess would benefit a lot more from half health.

Cause I'm not too familiar with Ultimate Mode, what are the restrictions for using Jackson? Could the runner have used it more? If not, I guess this is okay for publishing. It's not quite as solid as the other recent Zero runs, but it's not terrible by any means. I'll accept it.

Hard w/ Skips:

After the first mission, he dicked around on the pause screen. What the hell was that about? And what's with the Tiki-ish comments for that matter?

Aztec Falcon was a bit rough.

Hanumachine got raped.

The Flyers were a bit rough, but when aren't they? Terrible luck on Asura Basura. Anchtorus was icky too.

The climb up to the Rainbow Devil was very rough. The Devil fight was okay, though his slashing did seem a bit slow.

A bit of bad luck at the end on Stagroff. Missed the last hit on Necromancess. Didn't try to show off on Ganeshariff. Anchtorus was better this time. Okay Leviathan. Phantom was pretty good, though that final hit he took could've been avoided. Fefnir and Harpuia were okay. X didn't cooperate too well, but I've seen worse. Missed once on Seraph X.

This run felt a little rough overall, but it did correct the two biggest mistakes made in the old run. And it's faster. And it's Elpis. That's enough for me to accept it.

Hard All Missions:

I'll keep this one short, cause I just typed two walls of text for the other runs, and Elpis did me the favor of pointing out all the mistakes he made. Those mistakes weren't too common nor did they cost too much, aside from the icky luck on Stagroff refight and Seraph X. The death abuse thing on Ganeshariff was a surprise. And he did clear up a few nasty things from the old submission.

I enjoyed this run. This might be Elpis' best run yet. I accept this as well.

Hard with mission skips:

I accepted this run the last time, but I honestly didn't think it was that great. However, this run fixes pretty much every complaint I had about the last run, and then some. The hanumachine battle was way better, the shortcut in Neo Arcadia 1 was a smart move, and unlike the last run, most of the battles went by pretty smoothly. There might be room for a little more improvement, but knowing how random the bosses are in this game, I can't imagine shaving more than 5 seconds without wanting to kill yourself.

Hard, full run:

I think this run is 2 and a half or 3 minutes faster than the run I rejected, and it really shows. Every known shortcut was implemented, the fights were a lot better, and I even saw some smart cyber elf shortcuts that I didn't expect (the factory shortcut was good stuff!). I'm glad Elpis took the criticism I gave him and created a really tight run. Definitely my favorite run out of the bunch.

Ultimate run:

Seeing this game on Ultimate mode is sad, it's like the bosses don't even have a chance. Anyway, I didn't really see many mistakes, and most of the boss fights went as fast as possible, so I pass this run.

Ultimate with Mission Skips:
----------------------------

Very Nice speedrun, very little mistakes and nice strategies, specialy for the bird cyber-elf one.

This is a total Accept.
BTW, Isn't to use the hacker cyber elf on seraph x rather than harpuia?

Hard with Mission Skips:
------------------------

Very nice Elpis, a minute of improvement is realy good on a short speedrun.

Though, Copy-X could like you more Tongue

Accept

Hard without mission skips.
---------------------------

This is the most insane time i could ever imagine for a SS on this game. I was so impressed that you did most of the stages that good. Congrats.

Now Stage-by-Stage Comments:

Intro Stage:
Very Smoothly. Nothing more to say.

Aztec Falcon:
Very nice, you only lost a second before the boss door.

Maha Ganeshariff:
The run through the stage was very nice, though, the death at the end was questionable (i know it was on purpourse), maybe if you picked that energy near the end, you could've done it without dead, well, whatever, the escape was very good too.

Anubis Necromancess III:
We all hate this missions :S, very good run, though i don't see why you use Triple Rod in the Air at the beginning of the fight, those ones before he summon the walls, why not just use them in the ground? Anyway, the guy didn't got hit once, so you didn't lost time at all, except when you left him behind, but that's ok for a SS run.

Train Engine Core:
Nice run, i loved your midboss strategy, and i never though of such idea against the boss, though you missed lots of hits, but it's very hard doing it anyway. Shield Dancing FTW

Hydra Mechaniloid:
Very nice run, you missed one pogo jump, but your strategy with the bird-elf was realy impressive, and the boss was good.

Heavy Mechaniloid:
That is hardly improved.

Phantom:
The boss was done quickly, though, why you shoot the boomerang?, anyway, the rest of the stage was nicely done.

Blizzack Staggroff:
Good run, it sucks that the boss didn't jumped right away. Also, nice strategy to go under the flame camel.

Harpuia:
The stage was done smoothly, was the third hit with the shield on purpourse or a mistake?, also when you hit harpuia, wait a little so he won't turn to slash you.

Leviathan:
The stage was done realy good, with some lost seconds, also i love pogo jumping :). About the bitch, it can't be bettter :P.

Fefnir:
The stage was smoothly, though you desperate vs Fefnir, whatever.

Hanumachine:
Nice strat on the guard with the electric shield, though sadly you missed on the second :(. The evil monkey got raped.

Herculious Anchortus:
The stage was pretty good, little mistakes, Ashura was very nice, another skipping due to burd elf :). The boss couldn't be better.

Rainbow Devil:
The stage run was perfect, the boss was realy good too.

Seraph X:
Blizzack was perfect, Maha could be better, same goes for Herculious, i can't believe that Anubis survive by 1HP, maybe a skillcrush (or however it's called) could fix that, Leviathan was realy good, Phantom is hardly improvable, Fefnir was perfect :), Harpuia could've done better, Copy-x should've done better, also, you sould throw your shield when he runs out, Seraph X is good, could be improved, but i know how hard is to hit him with the shield.

Veredict: Accept

Such a good time and a good speedrun have to be accepted. Keep up the good work Smiley

Decision: Accept

Reason: Zero or GTFO

I'm wondering whether I should keep my S-rank run up, it's so old.

I vote you should keep it up.  S-rank seems like a run for hardcorists, which you're known for anyway.

Edit: That goes double for Zero 2.
Keep it up. It's still an entertaining watch.
PAL 50Hz KILL ME NOW
Yes, keep it up, or improve it if you feel like your up to it ^^
(I'm not touching S-rank stuff, I have to take too much into account and my brain explodes.)

comments to verifiers:
verifier 1:
-getting hit against golem on Ultimate was for my own masochistic(sp?) pleasure.
-Normal w/warps? lol
-The only way I see Anubis getting any faster is due to luck on his pillars.
-hitting Phantom witht the Shield Boomerang was a mistake, because my R button is raped and released on it's own >.< same goes for Blizzack rematch.
-the cells can be openend with rod and saber attacks only IIRC

verifier 2:
-pardon e moi? I used the english version because I like to keep my "record" saves on the cartridge, not leaving any room for Ultimate mode >.> IIRC I mention in my hard full comments that I have 3 cartridges of Zero1, two EU one JAP.
-The reason why I didn't jump straight up is because I was WAY too close to the golem, I expected to get hit when I regained control >.> that's why I flinched.
-I completely sucked all over the second stage, no denying that.
-Time is frozen post Aztec Falcon till tranceportation, that's why I get download CE there.
-Rainbowdevil should have died when I commandcharged that hit but NOOOO he had to connect with the saber and take 5 instead of 8 damage, the playerhater.
-IIRC CE use on anubis doesn't help as much.
-Jackson requires holding down the A button for a few secs.
-Tiki style comments, because it sounds/looks so awesome, so it was sort of a tribute I guess.

verifier 4:
-I'm not sure, does the LE cutter cyberelf even work on SeraphX? IIRC it saves more on Harpuia tho.
-I can definately do it without the death, but it would result in a slower time EVERYTIME >.>
(unless I have the luck that he doesn't do the rickroll, wich I never have.)
having full LE means I can damage abuse 3 times through his "thousand hand" ehonda ripoff attack,  without death I will always have taken 1 or 2 damage (abuse) so I can only do damage abuse 2 times.
-Boomerang on Phantom, broken R button, I got a new GBASP the day after >.<
-On Harpuia it was probably accidental, but I can't recall XD
-You can't skullcrush anubis, sadly, I believe the way I did it is the maximum damage you can deal under these restrictions.

Oh yes, I love you all :P.
Without the critisism and rejection of the previous hard full run, I might never have pushed it this far.
Thank you all so very much.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Actually, I had one question about the Anubus refight for the full run. Wouldn't it be faster if you just used a charged up flame shield for two hits each time? You'd still be able to kill Anbus in 4 cycles, IIRC.
PAL 50Hz KILL ME NOW
I didn't do that? wierd, I should have >.> maybe it was stress related? I can't remember.
its cold in here.
Zero or GTFO is right. my Z3 run will hopefully be done soon... oh and the S-rank run better stay up cause it is still pretty freakin awesome even if it is old.

good to see Elpis is back in action, keep up the good work! Cheesy
