Cape does not allow user to fly
Got to be one of the weirdest suggested titles I am sure.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/n64/197528-harvest-moon-64/faqs/62404

Looking over the data in this FAQ I have come to see the specifics for the good ending and it would be a game that would rely almost entirely on route planning and very little on execution. That alone gives the game merit.

Completion of the game with the best possible ending: You have animals, all house upgrades, married, town loves you, etc would require a very precisely planned route with some intelligent changes to the plan to deal with rainy days and such. This could be an interesting speed run and is something I would like to consider working on (as I complete my mischief makers run).

What do you all think?
Thread title:
Remember your mantra.
Sounds about the same as the Simcity run I have in mind, since both games have a rather ambigious 'ending', so to say.

It will take some incredible planning. Do you plan on segmenting it?

I really don't think that this is a game that can be segmented (in terms of replaying old segments, but it would be best to seperate it into months or something similar in order to more effectively separate the capturing process). If planned properly the run will have "skipped" days in which you will just go straight to bed without doing anything and those would have to be strategically figured out, but overall the run would have very specific "victory" criteria.
Something along the line of:

All house extensions
Married
10 Guests show to the end of game party
at least 4 cows
at least 1 sheep
at least 1 chicken

Or some such situation that will allow for the best overall ending and some other pre determined specifics. Then it comes down to crop/animal management, as well as which girl to court and how to do that. The route planning will be quite extensive and the game will have some luck elements added into it.
Been ages since I have played this, but Karen would be the way to go with the dog glitch.

Is that glitch the one where you just keep showing her the dog so you can make out her happiness and liking of you?
Yeah. If I remember right you can get her heart to pink in a single day.

I think it would be more interesting if the run banned the dog glitch, since that makes getting married just a bit too easy. It would require EVEN more planning as you would have to decide whether you wanted to go to the festivals or not, etc.

This is SDA, we don't ban glitches just based on "it would make it just a bit too easy."
In fact it could reject your run solely on the basis that you knew about it and just restricted yourself from using it because you thought it would be more interesting if it wasn't in the run. that's great for a personal achievement, route it out and put it on youtube. But for the SDA submission, you might as well put it in there if it makes the process faster.

On a different note, I would love to see a run of this game, and I wish you luck in your endeavour

Given the criteria listed, could you actually consider that a large-skip glitch?  It does rip a sizable portion of the game out.
THIS RUN CONTAINS SECRET WORLDS
I am so glad this thread exists and I hope someone starts working on a run of this soon. I should probably ask about a certain win condition (for 100%, maybe): has anyone figured out how to complete the photo album without reliance on random luck? I heard a few years ago that there's one picture (having to do with a contest involving cows' milk, I think) that no one knows how to get, but which seems to just appear randomly based on some unknown factor. Has this game been TASed yet? In order to ensure an ideal run you may need to study all known aspects of the RNG before recording even the first segment.

Also: one vote here in agreement that the dog glitch counts as a major skip. Getting Karen's heart to red in a single day is easily compared to catching a Lv. 1 Mew and doing the exp. underflow glitch in Pokemon RBY.

So is the dog glitch something that should be allowed or not? This is a game that would need to specify the win criteria as the bad ending is just sleep over and over again.

I will also be speaking to Comical Flop and his TASing buddies to get more info on the RNG that isn't already in the thread I posted. This run could take awhile, but also be very interesting for sure. Glad to see it getting some support and interest.
Weegee Time
I'd say it would be allowed, but be a separate category due to the amount of content it allows you to skip.  You'd have to ask an admin for certainty on it.
Cape does not allow user to fly
I definitely think that its good in its own category, but the courting aspect of the ladies is a dynamic that needs to be planned and will change future runs of this dramatically, hence why it should at least be a separate category.
For Donkey Kong 64 the run has this: A run that uses the following tricks is considered a major skips run: Hideout Helm early; K. Rool early; and glitching into boss fights. And for Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of the run has this: Note: The tricks that qualify as large-skip glitches are: Bottle Adventure; Reverse Bottle Adventure; skipping the stones and medallions; and skipping Ganon's castle trials. So i would think the "Dog Glitch" would be its own category.

Woah.

This game doesn't even have a defined ending, does it?

This all seems arbitrary and not game-supported as an "ending."

Pretty sure that party is followed by credits. Everything you do after is "Post-game"
Ending:

So the TheCape's goal would be a similar ending to the video except without dad complaining about animals.

OK what's the criteria for having that cutscene play? Seems like any% would be whatever is required to make the credits roll.

I believe the conversation changes based on how you did in the game, giving it a "good ending" and "bad ending" (or maybe multiple bad endings). Its been a long time since i've played this though and i may be incorrect, sorry if i'm completely off base here and not contributing.

Anyways I hope to see a run of some sort from this game because i remember spending a ton of time on this game just to complete it.
1-Up!
I actually really liked this game too, just want to hammer out some details. I think we could go with any% and best ending as the run types wherein everybody has something good to say at the end. Thoughts?

If I remember right On Year 3 Summer 1 the ending plays. If the affection points of all the villagers is below a certain number then dad takes you back to the city and you can no longer progress on that file. So any% would be getting to this point and then sleeping every day till this event.

Edit: Looks like only certain people can show up for the party. Heres the list I found.

The Shipper
May
Pastor Brown
Rick
Gotz
Sasha
Lillia
Basil
The Mayor
Mayor's Wife
Doug
Kent
Stu
Karen
Kai
Popuri
Gray
Elli
Jeff
Ann
Cliff
Maria
Harris

I posted a site that has a pretty explicit list of everything you need, and its broken down from the game's code.

The bad ending run could be achieved by just going straight to sleep each day, and would not be a run worth doing. The "good endings" allow you to stay on the farm and should be the only ones counted.

My thoughts would be this:
Good Ending Any % - You stay on the farm
Good Ending 100% - Everyone gives their good message, as described above
Then for both of those categories you would have a Dog Glitch version and a non Dog Glitch version.

Considering how I can't seem to find the verification, congrats on eating riceballs and sleeping your way to victory AniMeowzers!

Sometimes you pressed went through the menu super fast and sometimes it was just moderately fast, even though i'm sure you were mashing ridiculously fast the whole time. Kudos on the amusing run.
