Bestest.
I present you GTA 2 Cities 1 and 2. I'm bored and can't be arsed to try city 3 now, tomorrow, next week, next month, or probably even next year so here's the first 2. City 1 done in approx 12 min 56 sec and city 2 done in 23 min 56 sec. City 2 contains a handful of mistakes like collisions/getting stuck for a few sec/similar stupidity which I regret but since this is the fastest I managed, partly due to good luck and missions going rather ok/well, I decided not to try to shave the mistakes. I'm not even sure if these runs are fast or even good but I hope some people enjoy them. First video is 320x240 ~500 kbps / 64 kbps audio or something and second is 640x480 ~500 kbps / 96 kbps audio or something. Dunno if these are eligible to be included in SDA some day..
Ps. Sorry for the farts, I couldn't resist it.

Downloading... Haha i really enjoyed this.. Liked how you crushed all humans ^^ LOL ..
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Very fun game to watch speedrunned, also fun to watch someone play who don't die every minute... like me.

Now that I watched the first city again.. damn too many collisions aswell but I guess it was faster than the previous ones so.. Sad
This is great. I liked how you sped through the first two cities in a fun way (i.e. senseless running over people, crazy tank rampages, and using car-mounted machine guns). I completely forgot how much fun GTA 2 can be.

A run of city 3 would be complete ownage.

Wow, you did a lot of burping and farting (Those are controls in the game, right?)

i got pissd off of the farts.. good damn.. also after i watched this, i downloaded gta2 from rockstars site and played..

Ironically I downloaded it as well after watching. I plan to play once I beat FF12 and TC:NYC.
Those clips were much more entertaining & faster I thought they would be. Very nice. Leaving the area in level 2 could have been paced a little better, but as I said, nice work.

Yeah it's the horn button but it farts/burbs instead if you're on foot. It felt fun at the time but now it's kinda boring.

Yeah I hated that mistake but it just didn't exit at first and I was totally confused and wanted to finish the level so I panicked.... a very regrettable mistake.

Are you gonna submit this after its done?

Wait a minute, wouldn't the run be a lot faster if you turned off the frame limiter? Remember, the game runs insanely fast when the frame limiter is off, and remember that you can't help it if you have a faster computer required for the game.

That'd be cheating imo and I'd still be affected by whatever fps I record on so it slows the game down. If you recorded/ran on a different fps you'd have to compensate somehow for the times to be equal or something..
FF8 & FF12.. Long awaited runs.
Good watch, thanks for sharing!

Once, someone asked "What if someone has a better computer, and their characters could run faster?", then some people (and Radix), said they can't help it if they had a better, computer.

Well, the example was Fallout 2, in which the map wandering parts go faster if you have a fast computer; in this case (referring to this thread) the speed can be controlled, and if it's unrestricted it (at least in the original GTA) can go totally out of control if allowed to. I can imagine how the game runs at impossible speeds, the runner crashing all over the place, you couldn't keep track what the hell is happening on the screen... just no. Of course, if the speed is only 1.5x faster or so, then maybe...

I don't remember the verdict from word to word, but I believe the name was "Are hardware-induced advantages allowed", if I remember correct...

*Huff* Well, the thread is here, so you can see for yourself.
TIOLET!
Yes, there is a thread about hardware advantages in PC runs. I remember that no definite verdict came out of that except that PC running will always be plagued by "The guy with the fastest computer wins".

Yeah I could uncap the fps limiter but it still would slow down to the recording speed, which this case was 21 fps.. dunno exactly why I chose that. So yeah, I could record at 60fps and play at 60fps and it would go fast alright but I still think it's lame. You aren't allowed to use different fps in quake 1 runs either, it's a set standard..

Good to see you running this game. One of the funnest games I've ever played. So much to explore, interesting missions, or you can just go and do the tank thing and some kill frenzies.

Watched your runs, they're a good start. Obviously they need some polishing, like what you already said about bumping into things so much in level 1. I'm sure that alone costs you a minute and a half.

Some choice remarks about the runs:
- I love the initial part of Level 1. Very smooth running of those missions.
- When you have enough score, you choose to drive in the tank for another 10 seconds or so in Level 1, and for almost 1:10 minutes in Level 2. Why not switch to a car (any car) immediately. In Level 2, you had many good cars to choose from, would've saved up to 40 seconds. There was a Meteor available right as you hit the score.
- In the bank mission in Level 1, you get some bonus cash for spraying the car (before and after). This bonus cash is multiplied by the multiplier. If you do that mission last, you get some more free money. Saves 10 seconds or so of tanking.
- It's best to prevent ever backing up with the tank and not doing turns too much. Costs too much time. You destroy more cars by continually driving against traffic and doing wide U-turns only when absolutely needed. Some fidgeting with that in Level 1 cost you 20-30 seconds.
- When you run into the train at the station when you're hauling that car, that's funny. Smiley

I'll go over them again later this week, see what else I can spot.

I guess I just couldn't take the risk of jumping out and probably getting busted..
And you're probably right about the other stuff.
...
Well, despited the mistakes, I really liked both
runs you posted. Any chances of us seeing you
do the thrid city?
Food goes in here
I really enjoyed the runs too. You should complete the 3rd city and submit to SDA.;) I'm not sure if the mistakes in city 1 would warrant a redo though.
Speed is everything!
Is there still any progress on this run???
Any news about this run?
Bestest.
Don't know. Maybe. I'd like to but I have irl stuff. Might try during christmas.
