DS Dictator
This thread has been up for nearly 4 years (originally a topic of hey look this person can record DS stuff without emulators) and lots of updates occurred since the first post.

The more recent pages are members discussing about the 3DS Capture for buying, customer feedback and possible updates and so there is a new forum found on the link below that is dedicated to this awesome 3DS capture mod.

http://bb.3dscapture.com/quercus-4.0.25/phpBB3/index.php
http://3dscapture.com/forum/

You should check this link out for more stories on 3DS Capture news. I don't mind Loopy (or anyone following) bumping this thread to mention the new news updates like recording Digital Audio or 3D capturing.

You may know that the devices you see on IGN, Gamespot, Gametrailers, etc used the DS Nitro Capture device.

http://uk.youtube.com/user/Buoysel

In this channel it uses a capture device made by a friend.
All of his video description says that he won't help you make one :(.

The most recent video shows Pokemon D/P demo with 25-29FPS without any lag.
His old ones though does contain lag but it was in early development stages.

If only we knew the parts and instructions it could make Kirby Power Paintbrush and Zelda Phantom Hourglass submittable.

What do you think of this?

Edit 1:

There was a link to another Youtuber and had that well known 2 massive screen video.
Another one was added 3 months ago showing:

Some paint game,
Metroid Prime Hunters Intro
Zelda Phantom Hourglass gameplay
Pictochat.

http://home.comcast.net/~olimar/DS/jumbotron/

This page seems to be updated as well WITH instructions.

EDIT 2:

Same Youtuber (4344739) made another new video:

DS video capture over USB

Fucking Weeaboo
I shot off an email to the website owner and I'll see what comes back.  Hopefully more details, because there are PLENTY of games that need speed runs on the DS.

Until then, here's a couple links of parts I've dug up so far just from looking at the pictures.

Main Board: ($99)
http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?Prod=S3BOARD&Nav1=Products&Nav2=Programmable

USB Accessory Board: ($48)
http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?Prod=USB2&Nav1=Products&Nav2=Accessory

Digilent Test Point Header 1 ($9)
http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Catalog.cfm?Nav1=Products&Nav2=Accessory&Cat=Accessory

Hirose FX2 Socket Connector ($6.50)
http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?Prod=FX2SOCKET&Nav1=Products&Nav2=Cables

The cable coming off of the Digilent Test Point Header 1 seems to be 40-ribbon HDD cable, kinda.

Thats cool you've found the links to the products because I couldn't find any of them from Ebay.

Pika9323 sent me some Youtube PMs about the DS Brut
and the DSerial Edge.

DS Brut
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=111396&st=0

DSerial Edge
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=111502

The DS Brut might have nothing related to capture devices but the DSerial Edge has a USB Port and he is going to ask them if "someone makes a homemade USB Capture cable, will it work by connecting it to the DSerial Edge and the other port to the PC".

At least from what we've seen it's possible to make an homemade Capture device.
I'll buy a pre-owned DS original if I was going to make one.
Complete. Global. Saturation.
Sweet!

Here's a link to the ordering page, along with all the technical details:

:(
I don't think that the DSerial would be able to record, though I could be wrong.  It comes down to being able to output the video via the Slot-1, which I do believe is impossible.  DS capturing requires hardmodding, hands down, we'll have to wait for the DS-i to see if that changes.

The DSerial is a flash card, all it does is offer a USB port for homebrew apps that decide to take advantage of it.  And, it's not out yet and therefor not reviewed, so I'm not sure that it does a good job at being a flash cart >_>
I also heard an R4 with an Application added to it would be able to record off of the DS, is that true? Cause that seems the cheapest way.

I doubt it.  Since the R4's memory card needs to be used for the game itself, it likely doesn't have the capabilities to run that AND a capture program at the same time.

I wonder about the DSi, because while there are capture devices out there (which nobody seems to know how to build), I wonder how THIS is happening:

Yes, that is a DSi.  It's definitely not a camera panning over it, because you don't see any hands/stylus, and the panning is too smooth and the frame rate is too good.  So the question is...HOW?!

My only guess is an emulator running with a DSi skin, hopefully that's not it, cause I want real recording to be possible.

In the comments Buoysel said:

"Wrong... This is captured from a real Nintendo DS. No emulators, no illegal roms.

But the DSi around the screens is just an artwork. I do own a Japanese black Nintendo DSi, though. "

However, I really want to know if there is some way to get a DSi to have some recording features via Firmware updates.
I even made a small (not too negative AVGNesque) rant to Nintendo in my Author's Comments on the upcoming SM64 DS run.

I'm going to receive a White DSi this Friday, this means I have all 3 DS models what a DS whore I am now a days Sad

But what if your not using the R4 for the game itself? What if it was a clean R4 with this so called Application added? Assuming it egoists.....
And the thing about the Nintendo DSi is that I want to be able to record Guitar Hero On Tour videos, and the Nintendo DSi doesn't have the GBA slot, and thats where you put the little Fret Button thing, so it's no good to me. If someone finds out how to record from a regular Nintendo DS, that would be great.

But does anyone know if Nitro Captures are ever going to be disposed to the public?
I used to be athiest until I realized I was God.

The R4 has no processing power, the DS still would be in charge of outputting the video frame to memory, which is no small task. It would

A) need to be instructed to do so
B) have the processing power to spare in order to do so
So basically you would need to reprogram the entire R4 or it's useless for recording, thats just great, *sigh*

Does anyone know what this cord is used for on 4344739's Capture Device?

DS Dictator
Possibly the USB port to capture the video. If you watch his USB capture video, it does show the USB in the last few seconds. The cable sticking out of the DS Audio port is possibly for audio recording.
Fucking Weeaboo
Yes, it is.  If you look at the Jumbotron DS, that's what was built as an add-on.

Ya, I know what cord your talking about, it's this one, but I have no idea where it's going, a little help? It might go to the computer like the USB but I'm not sure where you would plug it in, I don't know as much about computers as most of the guys I see here, sorry  Cry

I'm a member now, yipee!!!
Waiting hurts my soul...
I know this is great to actually get runs recorded for the DS, but wouldn't this be considered hardware manipulation and not allowed for runs submitted to SDA?
I guess, but then again, who cares!!!
DS Dictator
It would fall under the Game Gear clause, lacked Video Output but can be modified to support it, but for a DS it's even harder.
Sorry, but do you think you can like, say that again but in English? lol, sorry, didn't know what you said......
DS Dictator
.... -_-
http://speeddemosarchive.com/kb/index.php/Console_Recording#Sega_Game_Gear

My previous comment was in English.... scensing scarcasm or lack of technical experince :P.
lol, I have technical experience, I just don't know all of those fancy words and what not, thanks btw  Grin
But the only word I didn't understand is the Game Gear Clause
DS Dictator
No problem and sorry with my short-fuse response.
The other problem now that from what I heard from Buoysel

Quote:
"I only coded the tools to capture raw videos and then convert them to lossless AVIs. Drivers and all that were made by my friend, though."

Possibly meaning you need to make a program to recognize this.
What!!! If I have to make another program for this to work, then I don't think there's any point in trying. Don't you think there is a possibility getting the Capture Device to cooperate with another program that supports Capture Devices? Windows Movie Maker, Pinnacle Studio, Sony Pro Vegas, etc........
