I want off the ride....
Noob guide at bottom of this post!

link - http://dungeonfighter.nexon.net/

General FAQ:
DFO? What is it?
-DFO is a brawler / MMO. It works off of going into dungeons and using (generally) awesome skills and techniques to destroy dungeons in up to parties of 4.

You said MMO?
-Yeah, MMO. It works out well. Its succeeded in Korea (DNF - Dungeon and Fighter) and in Japan (Arad Senki). Though a lot of people say there aren't as many players in Japan.

Okay so why should I play it?
-Its fun, Glamador and I are currently playing it, and its F2P with micro transactions.

F2P w/ micro?
-Free to play. But there are some benefits (avatar items, extra coins etc etc) for those who pay the running company (Nexon).

Wait wait Nexon?
-Yeah nexon, i don't like em much either, but they are on their way out.

My take on it:
DFO is fun. I've been enjoying it. Between Glamador and I, there have been some cool moments that we go "Oh yeah!" and some moments where we want to choke the other people in our party... but thats how all MMOs go if you play outside of a friend group.

Breakdown FAQ
There are 5 classes

Slayer - Standard sword wielding, demon cursed badass. Cool quick and generally awesome. Has 4 possible advances - Asura, Berzerker, Blade Master, and Soul Bender(Glamador plays this one)

Fighter - Hot chick who uses her fists and legs as the weapons they were made to be. Has 4 possible advances - Brawler, Grappler(I play this one), Nen master, and Striker

Mage - Loli chick who uses magic and casts spells. Gets minions and all that fun stuff! Has 4 possible advances - Battle Mage, Elementalist, Summoner, and Witch

Gunner - Oh yeah boi! The guy who uses guns! Dont know what else to say. Looks cool and bleeds win. Has 4 possible advances - Launcher, Mechanic, Ranger, and SpitFire

Priest - The party guy, the go to man. He brings the thunder from God to beat ya! Has 3! possible advances as the 4th class was not finished.. (even in DNF the original one) - Crusader, Exorcist, and Monk

More on their classes at the website http://dungeonfighter.nexon.net/Guide/Characters.aspx

Check out my play vid - as its really more representative of what you'll see than any DNF or Arad vids you'll see.

The game has good progression and I thought i'd just bring it up!

If you want to play just let me know here or i'll be online sometimes!

This game actually looks really cool but I don't have time for MMOs. It's a really popular Korean beat em up MMO. The BlazBlue people play it because they love Asian stuff and they finally figured out BlazBlue sucks, lol. I think I found out about this game from rashreflection aka Josh the FunkDOC.

Speaking of which, Elona looks pretty cool too. It's a roguelike MMO. I found out about it because Moka plays it. Don't have time for this either though.
Lay waste to everything...but I still love SDA!
I only knew the animated series, and that was fun. The game looks pretty good, but i don't really like MMOs. The gameplay video is entertaining even for me, though.

well the best thing about DFO is the fact it is only a mmo in the grind. its a pure beat em up in execution. you keep getting abilities and things to help out. the classes further expand on your tactics...
for ex (from fighter) the brawler expands on dirty tactics (poison, ground n pound. mines. etc) while the grappler goes for grabs like suplex, back breakers and so on. nen master goes with "hadoken" type moves. striker is straight up martial arts...

so the game is fun. not a chore at all!
I want off the ride....
Come on guys, its not that bad.. give it a try. And its hardly an mmo... just a brawler with MMO elements. You don't even NEED to party (except for one quest, but thats even skippable), so you dont have to put up with idoits. Come on someone wants to try this.. I know they do.

I might give it a shot, but as far as brawler-type MMOs, this one looks the most promising: http://lunia.ijji.com/aboutgame.nhn?m=characters

It looks like combat and everything is done like actual fighting games.
The Speedrunning Teacher
Alright, ya got me. I'll give it a try.  Expect some feedback after I play it a while.

Well that does look interesting but its still got a real 3d element. DFO is straight up if you went to the arcade and played a brawler. I wanna say its close to DD:SOM in some elements. People get spells, you get customization and everything. It comes down to build and class selection.

I donno how to say this, but watching me play and watching my room mate play are like two different beasts. He has a summoner and a Soul Bender, Both of which require poking manipulation of the battle field.

While my grappler just jumps into the fray and controls the field. I choose who to throw, when, and just run the field and accent my room mate well.

My newest character which hasn't hit his class change yet, is aiming to be an asura. Its a magic poker, but i've been playing it differently developing different combos and what not.

No matter what, when you look at that game, it seems like its more of the same with those combos. DFO varies it up with the fact that up to 4 members on a King's road. Really changes how games are played. Hell my room mate and I can do KINGS road (4 members suggested) and get  high ranks (S+) without trouble cause we play well together.

I can't really say anything about that MMO, but I just wanna say that... DFO is almost a brawler incarnate.

If you want someone to play with just try to hit up Glamador or I. We are usually on East 2-3's. Of the regions we are in. But you can just add our Characters as friends and see when we are online and where.

Eh, tried both games now and DFO is definitely more fun right off the bat. I hadn't realized that Lunia (what I linked) was 3d, I thought it looked the same as DFO. There's a few issues that made it less fun for me than DFO, Lunia won't let you run through enemies, and you won't slide if you slip on something, so movement is really annoying in big fights. Also, it plays pretty much like an arcade fighter, so I guess stiff controls come with the territory.

One thing which bugged me about DFO was the MISS system. It seems to me like they could have just made combat a little more technically demanding timing-wise to string combos together rather than just making you whiff random attacks.

But yeah, it is pretty fun, I have a low level sword-guy and Fighter (14 and 11) and it's pretty fun being able to easily string combos together and watch the enemies explode into pieces. I didn't really understand what you meant by brawler at first (since I've only ever played one), but yeah, once I played for a while it finally dawned on me.

That said, the fatigue limit is pretty garbage, and I can't seem to connect to the PvP section.

Edit: One other complaint. Not having a button dedicated to picking up items is the most retarded idea ever (or just picking them up on walk-over), I can't even count the number of times I've gotten hit because an item dropped right when I was going to attack, but stop to pick up a stack of items instead.

Yeah its a problem. I can agree to. The no-item pick up hot-key has hurt me more on my Asura to be than my grappler. if an item drops and my grappler can't 'normal' i just drop some skill use the invincibility and control and then get it later. I am really sorry about that. The fatigue is kinda garbage but really... For someone to run out of fatigue they have to play 3-4 hours on a character. Sure that is a bit meh, but they aim to make the game more about having alts and PvP on the end. It also limits some other things.

I'm sorry about PvP, its worked fine for me. I learned a lot from there. I am mad about only one thing though, the grind is horrendous. The exp is 2x of DNF or Arad, and they are planning on lowering it.. but who knows when that will happen. Its pretty easy to get to 10-11 on your first day, then 15-16 your second and be ready for class change on your third. With the fatigue system as it is (with the exp) it takes a month to hit the cap of 40. I dont play a whole lot so fatigue hasn't bothered me, but it has made my room mate cry (couldn't get the last part of a quest cause of fatigue). But i like it as a monitoring system....

Hopefully we meet.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Does this game really require 5-10 gigs of hd space? If so, I probably can't play it (yeah my hd is pretty low on space). Sad

No, it's taking up 2.63 GB on my hard drive at the moment. Quite a bit for a 2d game (considering resolution/graphics are set in stone), but hopefully not too much of a problem.

Ended up getting PvP to work, I'm pretty bad >_>

Well, a month to max level isn't bad at all, except for not being able to grind longer per day (I normally play Korean MMOs). It's sort of annoying that I realized I had entirely missed the quests of "clear with x% Technic" so now to catch up on that I'll have to waste about half of my fatigue points :/

But yeah, I'll be playing on the West servers, so probably won't meet :/

Also, I looked around but can't find an answer, do you get a free reskill in this game? If not, I should probably recreate my Slayer since I have ~billion points in worthless skills. Since it wasn't a correlation of 1 skill point per level I just figured they were unlimited for some reason. Oops.

You get a free re-skill when you class change into your choice. Otherwise there isn't one.

If you look at ARAD SOCIETY or something like that, there is a skill planner.

Just started out, so look for a slayer (later Blade Master) named "Akoren".  You might not see me for a while, sure, since I'm so new....

Liking it so far, is all I can really say.  Was I the only one who IMMEDIATELY went into the controls and reconfigured this to play it on a gamepad rather than keyboard?  Something about me thinks "beat-em-up + keyboard = no".  Will play with the controls more later until I get something perfectly suited to my style.

I don't expect to be going 3-4 hours a day, honestly, even on multiple characters.  One hour on most days probably.  UNLESS (and I'm going to try, since this is free to play and thus they really have no excuse to say no) I can successfully drag some of my WoW friends into playing this on the side - then I might be on it 2-3 hours a day.

Edit: I want to make sure I understand in brief the ranking system for dungeons.  Would I be right in saying that to boost Style, the best bet is to line up enemies so you hit a lot of them at once?  (That's generally the only way I can get my combos above seven hits.  I can aerial most enemies fine as a slayer if I react fast.)  And for Technique, I just time my attacks around theirs?  (I can generally only get Back Attacks consistently on bosses that have charge-up moves.  Counters are a bit easier for me.  But Overkills?  Having trouble finding what they mean by this in the game guide - do I need to finish them off with certain hits in the core combo, or merely strong enough attacks?)

Committing a brief understanding to memory will make it far easier later instead of trying to have a reference like the game guide next to me.

STYLE = 85% of it is Combos of 5 or higher (higher doesn't matter) and aerials. the other 15% is based on party play (multiple people hitting a monster at the same time.
so the best style maker is a combo where you hit them 5 times for slayer... a good one is x+x+x+z+x. (if you can work it, it might help to HOLD RIGHT/LEFT when you hit the final x {Base controls assumed}).

Technique is all Back attacks, Counters and OVERKILLS.
Back attacks and counters are obvious but a large portion of it (like 35% to 40%) is overkills. You have to deal >30% of their TOTAL hp in one attack. Meaning that (as a slayer) Ghost Slash is your best bet. As it is ONE HARD HIT. Otherwise...you can't get overkills much as lower level.

So if you are farming, waiting and countering is good. Back attacks are a pain to get early on but get easier when you get some cancels.
Just call me the cynicism machine
I sat through downloading the downloader.  I sat through using the downloader to download the installer.  I sat through installing the game.  I sat through the patching process after the installation.  Now the game won't boot and crashes after a few seconds of running.  Mods don't know what's wrong in spite of the fact that a lot of people are having this problem.

Awesome.  If you're going to rep a game that has these sorts of problems, at least do me the favor of not having to spend 30 minutes downloading and patching before I get screwed over.

S*** my bad. I forgot to mention that there is something retarded with DFO...

Its playable only by americans/canadians. Arad Senki is JAP only, and DNF is korean only... so europeans lose out Sad i'm sorry if thats the reason for this. I donno if it was or was not.

@Zurreco: I donno man, DFO has had problems with anti-virus software, so I have no clue what could be the problem. I know Glamador recently had problems connecting to DFO, dont know if those got resolved.
sda loyalist
Don't worry about it; I tried downloading/playing before you even made this topic. Just saying Z's problems are meaningless Grin
Lay waste to everything...but I still love SDA!
Doesn't work for me either. It was a hellish task to fix the c++ runtime error, but now it says that the connection is unstable. Dammit, i really wanted to play this! Goddammit.

Will there be a european version or that's just a tease?
Never give up!
While I'm still liking this going into my third day of playing, there are some things I'm hoping change, and none of it involves the dungeons:

1. The blocked list.  I know it's a bit absurd talking about a list of people you're directly ignoring in what is effectively an MMO, but the size of this needs to expand by at least double.  There's not enough slots to block all the gold spammers (also leaving me no room to block the people who REALLY DESERVE to be blocked), and if I don't block the gold spammers the chat function is just about worthless.  These guys make the gold spammers who haunt WoW look considerate.
2. The censoring system.  I don't completely object to censoring, but when you're censoring things like "pass" and "can use" just because things can be stripped from those to make objectionable words, you've gone too far.
3. The login.  Build the damn login function into the actual game client rather than making it a part of the site.  If you want site traffic that badly, have a readily accessible (but not too obtrusive) link to the game guide and news in-game instead.  It's not that hard.
sda loyalist
The whole 'log in from site' thing is surprisingly popular. I'm not sure why; it requires more infrastructure and server resources, not to mention is unstable client side etc.
I want off the ride....
I believe there is a "connect" function without needing to use the website. Check the folder you installed DFO into.
