Just tried the obvious thing to try in Hyron Core

Done with cheats. Too bad I have icarus.

But did it allow you to fight the boss after that?

EDIT: Also, Amoirealinge, any way you can produce a list of all the Computer Passwords in the game, like you did with the Keypad Codes?

- Yes
- I think so, yeah

@Vunik: Btw, in Hengsha 2, it's approx. 2 seconds faster to use the gate and go through the front door (see my video). And less tricky. It also saves you one praxis (you won't need icarus).
And have you timed all the conversations with Darrow ? I'll have to do that for my next segment, but of course if you already did it.. Smiley
Don't you already have icarus for Picus?

oops, yes. I was talking to Vunik and his SS run. Fixed.
this is a minor thing, but when climbing out of sewers, there's a small ledge you can jump on right next to the ladder. If you jump on that, then jump from there to the top of the ladder, it saves like half a second. There's like 3 spots you can do this in the run.

In Detroit ? Cool, thank you.

Edit: here is a list of all the computer passwords in the game. Some of those are just random words, and passwords longer than 12 characters (if any) are not listed. If you need a password, it's very simple: search for the username and the word on the next line is likely to be the password.

I recorded two parts of my playthrough, but I'm going to have to plan ahead a bit now for the rest of Detroit.

Intro:

Sarif's plant:

I'm currently looking into how I can be as cool as Amoirealinge in the Police station, but I can't seem to figure out how to pass through the lasers that early.
This O'Malley guy is a very buggy character. :p

(Sorry, this is not speedrunning at all, just a 2-minute glitch clip.)
I have some vids up for Deus Ex HR. I will finish uploading them later.

You need to crouch a bit before the laser and stay crouched a bit after the laser beam. I've found that sometimes the alarm doesn't trigger even when the laser is on.

Edit: yay I've finished my run Smiley And with an awesome boost jump at the end. Will be up in 3-4 hours.
Was only a test run isn't it? For the route? Did you finish with too many (CyberBoost) items/XP? If yes, I guess stuff can be skipped Smiley

Yes, it's only a route. It is not legit, I've edited my inventory a couple of times (mentioned in the video description). I wasn't planning ahead, and it needs a lot of optimization. Total time is approx. 1h17min Smiley
Here is my last segment. There is one crazy jump at hyron core, saves 15sec.

I finish with too much money. I don't need it. There are some items I don't need from the Yelena arena. And no praxis left (well except the one I receive once in the hyron arena). I could skip one praxis, because I don't really need to upgrade the battery.
Btw, I don't know if I want to make the actual run. Of course anyone is welcome to take my route.

That boost jump is indeed awesome Wink Not possible to stay on the box the whole time? Should be faster.

"And no praxis left (well except the one I receive once in the hyron arena)."
So maybe you can skip some XP somewhere? Like freeing that scientist for example (I can't remember if you did that or not)?

You can stay on it a bit longer, but not the whole time. The box falls into the void, I have to jump away from it.

Probably. I use the gas grenade that is in that room, but I can use the cloak instead I think.
Pretty slick, Amoirealinge.thumbsup

Wow, sportlov, that looks really smooth. Are you going for non-lethal and/or ghost speed run or are you just trying to get as much XP as possible early on?

Thanks a lot, I'm going for an ghost/smooth operator, and non-lethal. I'm also considering not getting the cloaking device at all, although this is an arbitrary goal and might not be as interesting as I'm perceiving it.

As I see it the pros of not getting the cloak, is that the route and choices will vary considerably compared to a 'normal' speed run. Combining it with an all ghost/smooth operator goal will also allow for more creative choices and solutions, as well as making it considerably harder. Escaping Zhao's penthouse can be a nightmare, for example.
The cons are of course that the run will be a couple of minutes slower, and that there will be some time spent walking around patrols/guards instead of just approaching them.

I'm going to remake the Sarif plant though, after seeing KOF's videos and realising I only spend 3 praxis points in Detroit (and the awful aim I'm sporting in that video). So I really don't need money for another praxis point, but can instead skip picking up any items and just buy one praxis point and maybe some hypostims. The difference will come with when I can fully upgrade the rebreather, but I should have enough points by the time I finish the FEMA facility anyway, and I'm not running a lot in there anyway, seeing as there are guards everywhere.

You should stop playing deus ex hr and get back to special ed class.

@Amoirealinge: That skip is amazing <3
Escaping Zhao's penthouse stealthily isn't that hard, really. It just takes one vent shaft and a lot of patience waiting for the guards to pathe the right way.

I for one would be most interested in a "100% ghost/smooth op/pacifist with 100% of tools at your disposal" run, so cloak all you want if you ask me Wink Feels like this kind of run needs the most rigorous planning of all. Somehow this category feels purest, too, at least to me.

There is a sort of low% Zero Takedown Ghost walkthrough here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2084804. It's far from a speed run, though quite entertaining, especially with the voice commentary. I'd guess a speed run with those meta rules would be informative, yet not as cool to watch.

And those "anything goes" runs Amoirealinge et al. are trying are incredible aswell, especially for someone like me who would never have the patience to try something like that on my own.
Edit history:
Carcinogen: 2011-10-08 04:39:56 pm
zero takedown ghost was my second playthrough <_<

I wonder if there's any ways to beat the game without any inventory items or augments. Doubtful, to be sure. Yelena pretty much requires a gun at bare minimum, and you need either a lot of ammo or a laser gun for Zhao. You have a choice of stealthing through the game without guns, or without augments, but without guns seems easier.
