I love SDA!
Sorry for the late reply. I've been very busy.

I honestly can't give you advice, Soul. It's been too long since I've played this game, sorry.

I'm in interested in seeing the float video you made. And MegaUpload would be fine, ;).
Fan of older games.
So, at long last I manage to get myself a working Playstation 1. ^_^

The old one was dead, couldnt read memory cards, and the controller kept disconnecting. This one works like a dream.

So now I can finally start with my progress of this speedrun! At last. Now for that DVD recorder ...

I decided to do some individual level speedruns (where you collect 6 Gobbos) for the first island. So far, added together (including bosses and secret puzzle piece levels) the Volcano island comes to about 17 minutes in length. I found a way to activate the Gobbo glitch in levels 1-1 all the way to 1-5. I also made a segment 1 video, showing me complete Level 1-1 all the way to Level 1-5, to show off a benefitial way to use the glitch. The quality isn't very good though. I'll upload it to megaupload soon anyway, incase you want to watch it. It shows the glitch, and some of the uses of the float.

Will be posting anything I find/do in this game.

I'll definitely be watching this then. I used to play Croc a fair bit; I popped it in not long back and it didn't seem too bad, but the controls feel broken now =P

MTGjumper : Great to hear you are interested Smiley And yeah, the controls were brilliant back in the day, and are still acceptable. But sometimes, that camera just fails to lock onto you >_<

The video has been uploaded to Megaupload. Please note this was recorded with a digital camera, as I currently do not have a DVD recorder. The visual quality isn't too great, but it'll do. For now.

As for the video itself, Its safe to say that the first island is broken. The glitch I found that enables you to get as many gobbos as you want has kinda helped in terms of skipping gobbos that take a while to access. But it isn't completely broken to the extent I can use it as much as I like. If you have any questions or have something to say about what you see in this video, do feel free to ask.

This isn't actually the final first segment, I haven't decided yet. The glitch does not work on any of the levels after this, If I recall correctly. This is why I stopped at the end of 1-5. I felt there was little point me continuing the run, as I'd be spoiling too much, and the quality is hard to bare. Although I am likely to break this down into 2 segments.

With that said, may the search for a HDD DVD recorder begin!

I will also continue doing individual level runs, to get a rough idea what kind of time we are looking at for a full run.

fucking .gif....
for some reason its way over 3 hours long and it stops after about 13 mins into the run.

from what I saw it was great.
From what I saw it was great. The combination of the hover glitch and gobbo glitch results in some interesting gameplay whereby you have to manage your lives and gem collecting. Good job!

Also, the quality of gameplay is very high, and if you can replicate that again for the real first segment (and every other segment) it would definitely be accepted.

open it with mpc, vlc messes it up
@Sword: this was freaking AWESOME! I cant wait to see more.
oh and why doesn't the gobbo-glitch work in the later levels anymore?

Thank you to Shadow_Jacky, MTGjumper and Phallosvogel for the positive comments  Cheesy

MTGjumper : Great to hear that the gameplay quality is great Smiley When it comes to doing the real segments, I'm going to make sure they are as perfect as possible before I release them. While in wait for the whole run to be posted, I'll be doing some individual levels here and there to keep you entertained. I just need to get my hands on a DVD recorder ...

Phallosvogel : The gobbo glitch can't be performed in every level, sadly. It needs certain requirements. I'll explain them now.

Basically, the gobbo glitch is performed by collecting a gobbo, then either a) Commiting suicide or b) Entering a new room, DURING the "Gobbo Get" animation. (When the gobbo yells "Yipee!", jumps in the air, and twirls around you). Now, for some things to mention;

1. This glitch means that you must lose lives. Its extremely rare for b) to occur, because gobbos are rarlely near a new room entrance. This means you'll mostly be relying on a), which will cost you a life each time. I don't have nearly enough lives to do this as many times as I'd like. Unless I enter a secret level and get hearts, but its usually faster to get the normal ones and avoid the glitch than entering the secret stage.

2. This glitch will only work on gobbos that are visible to the eye. That means if they are hidden inside a box, it will not register. I don't know the exact reason why, but it only seems to work on gobbos that are out in the open for grabs.

The further I go in the game, the more I see gobbos inside boxes. I did however find an instance of the glitch in the Ice World, so don't give up hope yet Wink

I have now got times for Individual levels for all levels on the Volcano and Ice Worlds. So far, the total is a little over 40 minutes. Sub 3 hours should be possible! Smiley

I'll keep you all up to date.

Sorry I haven't posted in here for a bit, its just school has started again, and I have hardly anytime to play anymore. Sad

Not to forget I don't have a DVD Recorder yet, I have the one I want chosen, I just need to find a suitable time to purchase it ...

Argh :-[

I am playing through this and have come up with some more routes, but not having anything to record it nicely is really irritating.

I'm gonna need to search harder. I have the one I want planned out, just need to find a suitable time to buy it ...

This isn't fully complete, but I have the first 2 islands completely planned out. I will get to doing them all, but when, I'm not too sure.

Sword
I'm gonna have to play through this again some time in the near future. I do0ubt I'll be of any help, but you might need verifiers some day... Wink

Finally got a DVD Recorder, and I've got it to working standards. Cheesy

Just need to post a quality test sometime soon, and if it is acceptable I can begin recording segments, and getting into this. Smiley
Good to hear. This series of games holds a lot of nostalgic value for me, and I think a speedrun would make a great watch Smiley

What he said!
:(
I wish I could find my copy of Croc Sad
any progress on this?
Currently occupying the grey area.
hmmm, I would have thought you could use a PS2 to record a PSX run, seeing as it isn't an emulator.
Fan of older games.
I have not dropped this speedrun. I'm still around, and I'm still working on it. But, before I go any further with this, I need to buy some DVD-R discs in order to record the run with. (Or do a quality test, even, to make sure my runs are up to visual presentation standard)

I am still in the process of going around the later levels, looking for potential shortcuts (as with death being an advantage in some areas, I'm gonna need to make sure that I find the quickest way to do all the levels)

Soon, I'll start timing myself completing all the levels on the Desert Island, once I'm sure I have found the fastest routes. I'll post further progress when I get there ...

Croc is badass, I remember watching someones run, don't know if it was yours, it wasn't complete. Sound was all off which was really annoying.

Next run officially planned. Currently practicing.
I just beat this game, and I was thinking that I could do a segmented run of this. Each segment would either be the three levels before a boss fight, or a boss fight itself. You do not have to rescue any Gobbos to continue on throughout the game.

EDIT: I cant watch your practice run. Youtube says that your account got suspended.

EDIT: I found an up to par speed run of the PC version. (He only goes through the first island.)

EDIT: Wonderfully done 100% run on the PS1 version.
Fan of older games.
Wow ... it's been a while. Sorry I haven't posted but I've had alot going on for the past few months, so I haven't had much time to work on this.  Sad

I picked up the game again this week and I can still do all the stunts and tricks I could do before ... and I have a DVD Recorder with DVD +RW discs, too. It's just getting a sample on SDA to see if the quality is good enough is a pain. I have little to no idea how to use all the disc and ripping movies to programs and hardware ... hahaha.  Lips Sealed

I think I'm just gonna record and finish the run to my HDD first. I have enough space to fit several (if not all of the) segments on it before transferring them to discs. Once I have the whole run recorded and done then I can waste my time trying to get it online. XD

I've played every level through and I have a good route for all of them. I predict the run as a whole to be roughly 2 hours in length. And yes, I'm going for the 100% complete, because just running through the entire game collecting nothing is pretty boring to watch, and the boss fights are nothing special, either.

At the above post, thanks for posting the 100% run. I'll watch the entire thing to see if there may be the odd alternative route that he might have done to save time. Chances are he doesn't use any of the glitches though ...

It's official, I've picked this back up again. Expect to be hearing from me again soon.  Smiley

Sweet, I love this game. Go for it d00d.

EDIT: Dude, scarper! Fuckin' awesome! Thanks for that 100% link! Many times I've searched YouTube for a run of this game, and I guess recently that one was put up. Many thanks.
