I've done a Croc: Legend of the Gobbos for the PSX. It's nowhere near perfect, but I'm just hoping someone can do one. An appropriate one. I guess my run is to show the levels. Or something like that.

Thread title:
looks nice (watched the first two levels so far, sry^^) but you really should atop waiting at those lava pits. you collect all these diamonds to take damage and continue anyway
I love SDA!
Yeah, I guess the first levels I didn't really do that. But after the first island I did just that. At least, I remember doing that on two levels, :P.

Has anyone done a 100% speedrun on this game? Like, instead of just running through the levels, you go and collect all the Gobbos, the coloured crystals and get the screen at the end telling you you've completed it 100%.
fucking .gif....
I had ran across this small run when looking at a bunch of Croc vids

This looks pretty good to me:

Many Thanks for those videos, DubbleJ. Thats exactly what I'm looking for.

I am planning to do something very simular to those videos there. Collect all the necerssary items to clear each level (5 Gobbos, 5 coloured crystals, 1 Gobbo inside the hidden crystal door), however, I plan not to go into the secret bonus areas, as these areas don't hold anything but health, and you aren't required to enter any of them to complete the game.

Also note, Its impossible to reach the secret island if you don't save all the Gobbos in each level. And you can't complete the game fully if you don't reach the secret island. The secret island is unlocked by collecting the 8 puzzle pieces from the extra levels (unlocked by collecting all 6 Gobbos in all levels before a boss), and there is a boss that needs deafeating in the secret island.

Also, whats the ruling with the death abuse? I did a Speedrun today of 1-1 (And so the adventure begins) and I died twice on purpose, in order to save time in the caves. Is this allowed? Or must I backtrack through the caves, which takes longer?

No prob, ;).

The secret levels are indeed a waste of time. And yes, those aren't needed to get 100% score, anyway.

I think death abuse should be allowed, as running back to the previous point takes indeed more time. But then you only start out with two lives, which means you can't abuse it as much as you wanted. Surely you won't be able to finish the levels with as many crystals you want, because you get hit on purpose to be as fast as possible. But I'm curious as how you would do it, though.

I've found a sequence break during my playthrough today.

I was able to get 7 Gobbos on Level 1-1, "And so the Adventure Begins" using a glitch I found. However, you only need to get 6 of them to clear the level. You will still unlock the 1st puzzle piece level, even though you skip one of the default Gobbos on the level.

This means you can skip the one behind the crystal door. You can save time by not bothering to collect all the colured crystals, and you can avoid the bonus altogether. I was amazed at this find. Pretty neat. I will make a Level 1-1 Speedrun demonstration sometime soon, showing the Glitch, and my use of death to advantage.

This game has a ton of potential. I can feel it. Definately something I'm going to be looking into.

So, its decided. Secret levels should be avoided. As they enable waiting for the dust (what is that sparkling stuff, anyway?), being treated to a loading screen, having to clear another level with hearts and plain crystals, going into the dust once more, and getting yet another loading screen. Complete waste of time.

Death abuse is limited, as you said. But remember, when you hit the gong, all the crystals you have are kept into storage. When you get 100, that will add on an extra life. And yes, as you also said, you do drop all of your crystals very often, to go as fast as possible. Whether this be diving into lava to cut a few platforms, or commiting suicide to exit a room faster. But at the time being, I don't see death abuse being used as much as one would think. I found no places where it would be benefitial in the 3 levels after 1-1.

I'll post any things I find during my playthroughs here.

Wow, I'm looking forward to that glitch you found. Sounds really interesting.

A hint you might know already: Sometimes when you go down a well, the screen goes black. Keep holding the forward button so that you can land on a platform, instead of the ground. You can save a second or so. I know this can be done during the last island (forgot which level).

Thanks. But before I make that video, I need to get a DVD recorder. I hope to get one soon.

As for your tip : Yes, its something that I do use. When falling from the sky, you can choose which way you fall by holding the control stick. You can land a bit further on in the caves and such. And land on platforms earlier than you are supposed to in the later levels.

Ah, okay. Keep us updated!

Why dont you ever use the hover glitch?

Uh, sure.

Press x to jump, then press box to do an attack in the air, IMMEDIATLEY after pressing box hold down x and you will be hovering in the air for a period of seconds, you can travel across long gaps and such.

Another helpful tip. I never knew about that, craz3d. That will probably save some time, too.

I was also unaware of this trick. I shall give it an attempt soon enough.  Thanks craz3d Smiley

In my absence, I've been exploiting this trick. It is just immensely useful in a lot of places, and can be performed anywhere.

At first I had my doubts about it, but if timed perfectly, its really effective.

This should be allowed. It doesnt break the game entirely (I still have to get 6 Gobbos and 5 Coloured Crystals) but it can help in many places.

A huge thank you to craz3d for telling me about this. Its opened up the game so much more.

Nice video, DubbleJ. After watching, I think you might find this useful:

During jumps, the functions of the D-pad left/right (rotate) and L1/R1 (strafe) are swapped. So e.g. if you want to turn right while jumping, hold down R1 while in the air.

I love the soundtrack for this game Grin

The soundtrack is really sweet, ;).

Oh, I'm not doing this anymore. I just kept the vids up so Sword_of_Seals could access it quicker should he use it.

Hey. Sorry for my longish absense. I've been busy with school, but thankfully, its over.

I managed to buy a PS1 with a memory card (I've been using my sister's PS2 for my older play sessions) recently, only to discover the PS1's memory card drive is broken, because It won't read memory cards, even when I put them in there <_<

But I've been playing on my sisters for the most part. I went through the entire game looking for where I could abuse that Float and death abuse. And I've got some good plans.

Now I need to take back the PS1 and get a working console (Be it PS1 or PS2) and to get a DVD recorder. After I have done that I could start recording some IL Speedruns, and eventually get a whole game segmented.

I've also come across some cool glitches in the game (Getting stuck in a bonus area is one of them) that I'd like to show, so that could be something to look forward to.

Now I need to get a 100% complete on memory card. After I have done so, hopefully some videos will follow.

Please do keep the videos up DubbleJ, as I have been looking at them as a guide of help for some parts.

I plan to be more up to date, as of now.

Good to hear from you, Sword.

Okay, I'll keep the vids up. Just remember that these are more helpful than mine:

Ok. I have 100% on my Memory Card now. So I can practice individual levels, note where I use the Float Glitch, Death Abuse and can plan out routes. I'm still on my sister's PS2, but tomorrow I am going out to trade the non-working PS1 for a different one, hopefully one that functions properly.

I am also looking into a DVD player. I have the money for one, its just getting one ... hopefully plan to have that resolved soon.

Once I have that, I can start making videos. But this route planning thing may take a while.

It is also good to see you are still interested in me doing this speedrun, DubbleJ Smiley

I also need your advice : Which Gobbo on 1-1 should I skip? Which one should I skip to save the most time? It cannot be the one standing on top of the well at the start, and activating the glitch will require me to enter the well. Thoughts?

Hope to hear from you soon.

I didn't manage to get that working PS1 afterall Undecided

But I do know another shop that has some. Hopefully within the week I'll go and get it.

I also recorded something with my digital camera, but the quality isn't that great. Its a video showing a benefitial use of the Float. If you like, I could upload it to Megaupload so you can view it.

I refuse to upload to youtube, because the quality will become so terrible you won't be able to see whats happening >_<

Or I could just wait untill I get a DVD Recorder and record it using that instead.
