Mission 1 - The Rio Insurrection - 4:25

Very, very fun mission. I like fast missions, fast gameplay and this one is fast as hell man!
In order to do this quick you need to get down the 4 GDI centres ASAP, to trigger the Splintercell objective.
The western center is taken down easily by just giving the barracks aggressive stance, waypointing the centre and pump out some Rockets.
The southern center is patroled by Pitbulls, just use the timeframe when they arent there and finished it off quickly
The eastern center is defended by guardians and massive infantry.
Since i do bikes only i use my harvester as meatshield.
Same with the northern center - harvester as meatshield.
Raiding the Splintercell Conyard is a little bit tricky, because fanatics just blow up bikes so easily. So i built 4 buggies to distract them.
Microing the Bikes a little bit to avoid stationairy defense fire and hammering the goddamn Conyard.

Mission 2 - What is rightfully Ours - 07:11

I had to do so many runs on that one. Very difficult. Moving the MCV to the cliff and build baracks directly next to the Lab costs to much time.
The only viable strategies are air-strats. I tried with Venom-Cover but it didnt worked out well.
I found out that its possible to capture the Behemoth with 4 rocket drops. And you have the Behemoth its pretty much "gg".
Just having some Saboteurs ready if the Lab gets too much damage. The AI will focus the Lab and so the Behemoth can easily shoot em.
Very difficult is the landing operation and to caputere the Lab and Behemoth simultaneously.

Mission 3 - Persuade him... - 05:10

Very tricky mission. I was looking so long for any weakpoints in Marcions Fortress and found one after trying the most exotic strats.
And it was so easy somehow.
But at first - to stop GDI and the Nod escort force we need firepower - a lot of firepower and since we do this mission fast and trigger the escort sequence ASAP we need a lot of firepower ASAP. Hum. So Nods best way to gain firepower in a short amout of time is to Dozerscorpspam like a maniac.
To destoy the Fortress i just used one single Stealthtank, sneak him in via reverse move so he gets shot on the frontal armor and doesnt lose his stealthability. After this the stealthdetecting SAM-Site needs to be destroyed and the way is free to Marcions Fortress.
This mission is all about Macromanagement. If the Scorpforce is ready raid the convoy at the chokepoint were it battles the GDI Force.
Gain control over Marcion and lead him to the evac point.
Pretty cool mission.

Mission 4 - A Grand Gesture - 02:34 (02:40 old time)

Easy mission, just capture the Purifierhusks and run towards the Research Lab.
Use 1 draftet Cabalsquad too avoid attacks on your Purifiers (which would slow them down) by the first Orca.
Use the harvester as meatshield in the enemy base to prevent your purifiers to get shot and slowed down.
Since youre using the Black Hand Tech Tree in this mission, researching purifying flame is a MUST!
I had 02:35, but unrecorded, so it doesnt count. :p
You need luck because sometimes the mainforce is on the south route, and sometimes on the north route (which slows down your advance).
Re-done this with a 02:34 mission time.

Mission 5 - Keys to the Kingdom - 5:19

To be honest, i dont like Commandomissions in RTS-Games but however this one was challenging und fun.
Taking out the Ion Control Center and Com Station in the first part is really easy.
The mission becomes challenging in the second part where the rest of the map is unlocked.
I found out that its possible to sneak in the Shaodwteams into the GDI base. C4ing the Airfield and PPs eliminate 2 threats - Hammerheads and Orcas which deny the fast capture of the 4 facilities AND the massive GDI base defence.
So im using the given Reckoners to bring the Saboteurs to their destination ASAP.
The real time saver here are the sneaky Shadows in the GDI base.
Under 5min is possible.

----
----

Mission 6

----
----

Mission 7 - The Doctor Vanishes - 05:46

The first Saboteur needs to get ASAP to the GDI Lab to initiate the Evac Sequence.
GDI launches a massive attack on the Transport.
On the way to the GDI Lab are 2 Tiberium Silos giving an addition 10.000 Credits + build radius.
I tried to defend the transport with a second base at the Silos, massive bikespam + some Mantis', bikes + buggies.
Didnt worked out well!
So simple manspam is the key to win this. Just block the first slingshots and then put your men in the route of the next slingshot and hammerhead waves.

Important: one Blackhandsquad needs to garrison a building near the Lab to prevent GDI rocketmen entering the buildings and shoot the transport when landing/taking off

easy mission if you know how to do it Tongue

----
----

Mission 8 - MARV Rising - 11:54

Quite easy Mission, but its hard to get a good time since you have to wait so long for getting the Redeemer (6min after capturing the Reclm. Hub + 50s for Redeemer Facility + 50s production time of the Redeemer) unlocked.
The first MARV is easily taken out with a Minedrop and the given force of Avatars and Stealthtanks.
Reckoners bring in the Saboteurs for reactivating fallen Avatars and to capture the Reclamator Hub (lost almost 30seconds there).
I managed to get 2 Avatars on heroic level which turns them into facemelting robots of Doom! Already placing them at the edge of the map intercepts the endless enemy attacking waves and finish the both ZOCOM Conyards faster then the Redeemer is been build.
Since the 2 ZOCOM Marvs are optional objectives i avoided them.
As mentioned above: lost seconds when capturing the Reclamator hab because a predator shell killed the first Saboteur.
Dont know how to bring the Saboteurs in much earlier because that defense of Rigs, Predators, Ceramic Zorcas and HHs eradicates every unit if you dont have those big Avatars as meatshield.

Mission 9 - The Betrayal of Killian Qatar - 10:30

This is BY FAR the most annoying mission in the game. I was just raging the whole time when playing it.
Reasons:
1) The GDI Base never has the same amount of troops. (Sometimes there are even mammoth tanks which render a fast eradication of the base impossible.
2) GDI Airunits sometimes attack your base, or your troops, or or or.
3) The frienly AI is just extremely stupid. Sometimes they attack, sometimes not, sometimes they block each other, sometimes they just waste flametanks etc.
4) LAG, extrem LAG...as soon as the massive battles begin the SAGE engines shows her creepy face. Interface lag, slow downs etc. The whole Video is over 18min but mission time is just 10:30. And i dont run a bad PC. Its the Sage engine, i remember that shit from Generals.
5) Many storytelling scenes, where just cant do nothing since you get your units transfered!

Ok so the first part, taking out the AA-Batteries is easy - just dont attract the big patrol, which is moving to temple prime and take out all the little patrols. The Commando can shoot while running towards them (saves some seconds). I blow up the Surveyor to achieve a levelup!
After this its important to avoid the bombs and keep the commando alive.

Next objective is to shut down the GDI base. You get a decent force of Scorps, Buggies and Bikes AND theres still the leveld Commando.
Addiontal you get a MCV. I rush to Tech 2 and send an Emissary to the cliff to place a Warfactory near the GDI base and pump out some nasty flametanks.
When rushing the GDI base its important that the Airfield is taken out first since it pumps out so many nasty Hammerheads. The commando must C4 the MCV (avoids rebuilding of production facilities and saves alot of seconds). Its not that easy since most units and watchtowers will focus her when shes in LoS. W/o Airfield and MCV its an easy game for the flametanks to burn everything down.

Now you lose all your units and the base is transfered to the allied Nod AI.
A new part of the map is unlocked and we're getting a nice Commando and a Saboteur.
Nothing much to do here, shoot some squads, blow up fence controls, infiltrate the Ion Shield Facility. Once done a bike appears and needs to be sent to the evac Zone. That stupid AI totally blocked me in this part of the mission. I raged so hard.

Mission 10

Mission 11 - Tacitius Interruptus - 02:38 (old time: 2:45)

A very fast one. You have to stop the convoy at the end of the pass because it does some weird turns in the city and if you raid them there you waste time! So i busted out some scorps just rushed with my given army and a reckoner with 2 saboteurs. Most important is the shovelupgrade which allows you to squish the Zoneraiders protecting the MCV. I use the cloakfield to finish as many Zone-Raiders as i can. After this just pumping out bikes to avoid attacks on the MCV.
02:35 can be possible.
Re-done this with a 02:38 mission time.
----

Mission 12 - Will Made Flesh - 11:30

That Mission is a bitch!
You have to capture 4 Control Nodes and hold them for over 3 minutes.
If they are getting damaged, the countdown will stop.
So you cant just rush engineers to them and pray that your units are able to prevent the AI to destroy the Nodes within the timelimit.
A lonely APC is shooting at one Node can stop the countdown.
And you dont have enough credits and units to fight at every node, when you capture them fast.

I found out that the massive bunch of units patroling the area telling the main force (many mortarbulls and predators) where are you trying to capture and will launch an attack on that Node immediatly (game over).
Also the mainforce somehow attacks only when ALL nodes are captured (objective 1).
So you somehow have to prepare to kill the patrol before they detected the captured nodes.
AND the mainforce only attacks the node @ your base and the node at THEIR base.
The node at your base is easy to defend, but the other node cant be supported by minedrop since the enemy base blocks the bomber.

I worked with Stealthed Reckoners and Disruption towers. And i lost some minutes because of the prepartion needed.
So i dont captured ALL nodes immediately and lost some minutes. (I have no clue how to do this mission without that prepartion).

Well 11:30 is a lot, but that mission is incredible hard too speedrun.
theoretical under 8min is possible, but i have no idea how to stop that major force since you cant distract them (tried with Venoms, Reckoners, Scorpions)

would like to try to run the complete campaign in one go, after finishing the individuals

Thread title:
Heavy Metal Powered
We are several interested, I believe however it was decided for the 1.0 patch to be used (better balances for speedrunning)... There was a thread for this game at one point, it's probably lost somewhere in all the pages here in the PC games section, you should search for it. It contains some videos and other useful information.
yea i found that thread, but all the videos are offline somehow Sad
but its seems that 1.00 is the only allowed patch
so i have to do some missions again since i already had some good runs with 1.02
i got a under 6min run in Mission 7, which was always above 6min in that thread

so yea im gotta start again with 1.00 and since the "old" run wasnt finished somehow, ill try to do that
Visit my profile to see my runs!
Looking forward to this!  Keep us posted with your progress, and good luck.
Dragon Power Supreme
Heck yes! Can't wait to see this done. I'll edit the post with comments on the videos later. Use the old thread as reference as it probably has useful information.

1.00 is used since its the best version for speedrunning.
hey IsraeliRD, i saw you were active in that thread of nexgone's run
unfortunately i couldnt retrieve all mission times of nexgone because all his videos are offline

do you have this information? would be great if you could post it here

Dragon Power Supreme
Sadly, none, it's been 1.5 years ago Sad
You can check for some information throughout the thread, as some posts do contain times listed, but not all. It may be of some help, especially towards the latter posts. You can also get additional tips within the missions based on comments.

Now to reply to your videos:
How come there's no music background? No fanfare when the Victorious comes up? I'm not sure, I think you are required to have those, better make sure with Mike you can have them muted. Also, I believe you must show the mouse cursor in the videos.

Mission 1: Speed indeed, but a suggestion. Maybe have a buggy or two thrown on the right side for the defenses, and another one or two thrown at the fanatics (maybe be able to run them over or they just blow themselves up).
Otherwise looks fine for me, great job.

Mission 2 & 4: Awesome job.

Mission 8 very well done. I don't see a way to get the engineers faster, the avatars are a must. The only possible way is get the avatar husks as they die so you can get some more juice out of them, perhaps getting the center faster?

Mission 9: You could have probably moved the Commando closer to the PP without the watchtowers detecting her?
After the sub/commando arrived on bottom right, it would have been ~3 seconds faster if you just sent the saboteur first (at least moving to the north a little) and only then the commando (who goes much faster than the saboteur). Your mistake was being so used to waypoints that you were just sub-optimal there. It kept showing as you kept stopping the saboteur from moving at times as you assigned him new waypoints.

Additionally, I'd recommend going after the power plants. AI didn't destroy any as far as I could tell, but once you went on them, the base defenses went down (also, WF etc. would be slowed down) and thus your tanks were saved. Probably can save a handful of seconds there.
All in all, it appears the saboteur could have been moved closer to his destination at parts without having him killed. I believe you can get the whole part maybe 10 seconds faster if not more.

Loads of time lost because of the AI stopping your bike there; you should have gone around it in the first place.
Also the lag... you should have sent in the waypoint markers there instead once you had the bike moving, it would have been much faster in this case imo.

Mission 11: Good job. 10 seconds faster? I'm interested in how. I can assume it's manually navigating the convoy in the city at parts.

Mission 12: I hate this mission so much >_< Good job there, I would have no idea how to greatly improve your run besides having the stealth tanks stop the APCs from attacking the nodes (probably had to have them before?).

Looking forwards for more progress. Up to now you've done well and no doubt more will be improved. Keep it up!
Edit history:
Schelle: 2011-03-24 07:51:31 am
hey,

i have background music muted because i played Kanes Wrath online for almost 2 years and it gets extremely annoying then.
So it needs to be activated?
Well the Cursorproblem: C&C uses modified Windows and i dont know how to record those. I use WeGame for recording. Im working on this Issue!

Mission1: No, you only can do this faster if you get down the GDI Centres faster. You dont need more then 8 Bikes at the MCV because even if you get their MCV down to low HP instantly the ending sequence wont appear much faster (The MCV doesnt lose HP anymore, you can see it if you watch carefully).

Mission9: If i destroy the Powerplants on my flank, there will be still enough power to keep the defense online. The Conyard is Target #1.

Mission11: No, just capturing the MCV 10 seconds earlier.

Dragon Power Supreme
I'll ask Mike about the music. np about the cursor problem, but it shouldn't be present in the submitted videos (I think).

Thanks for the replies; I am aware the conyard is #1, just curious after you destroy it and the airfield whether it would be faster to get rid of the power next. You're the speedrunner though Smiley
okay, so i re-do the videos w/o cursor?
well at first i finish all mission

mission 7 is online, check out if you havent yet
i read that 6:13 was nexgones best time, did he improved that or was this his final best time?
Dragon Power Supreme
I talked to Mike on IRC, he says you don't need the sound, but you must have cursor showing in the video.
Edit history:
Schelle: 2011-03-24 05:50:36 pm
okay, so I'll redo these missions
Edit history:
IsraeliRD: 2011-03-24 06:28:39 pm
Dragon Power Supreme
I noticed you had background music on so I'm probably more happy-- it's just to make your run less iffy and more acceptable for verifiers. No cursor was the big one, though.

New vids:
Mission 3 was darn good. The tactic to destory MarCion's fortress was very smart. I do recall Negoxe's tactic on destroying his convoy extremely fast, however.
He took a surveyor I think (or a MCV/Crane?) to the location where Marcion's forces exit. With the help of the choppers (I'm not sure about usage of choppers, probably wrong), loads of spammed base defenses (everything is tight too, so they can't escape easily) and the mine field he layed there, he pratically owned the forces extremely fast.

What took him so long was destroying the fortress, whereas you managed it real fast.

Mission 5 no complaints really, much faster than Negoxe's for sure.

Same for Mission 7. I don't recall him getting any faster, so 6:13 should be his final as he didn't re-record.
okay ty for the feedback
how did nexgones manage to destroy the fortress?

+ Mission 4 and 11 re-done with better mission times!
Dragon Power Supreme
I believe he used his venoms (from 2-3 airfields). I just remember his method to destroy the convoy because it was extremely unique and was really fast.

Mission 4 very well done! I didn't expect a lone purifier but it worked.
Mission 11 just feels as if it can go faster. For some reason, it feels you could have captured the MCV faster. Having an attack bike run into the MCV's path was unfortunate as well.
