I'm no good with introductions, but hey everyone. I'm friends in RL with EmptyEye, and cousins with DLH112.

I would like to speed run Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg on the Gamecube.  It would be wonderful if anyone here has played it a lot and could help synthesize ideas with me, If not then that's cool, too.  There has hardly been any discussion here, and it's not THAT obscure of a game. The main levels may be able to be beaten in a half hour or less, for now I'll see if I can do it comfortably under one hour.  The run will hopefully be single-segment, unless I screw up and get pissed too many times.  Also, each level has it's own timer, so I was hoping the run time would just be a combination of level times, so I don't have to master menu navigation and text-scrolling.

I'll actually post times and progress here if enough discussion and/or interest gets generated.
Please post feedback!!
Thread title:
P.S. 100% and/or individual level runs would be fun, too. the 100% run would make me so angry to even attempt. but individual levels I would do.  Can individual level runs be submitted if a 100% run isn't?
That rule has been gone for over a year =p

Even so, it's individual levels. Of course you can. Just as long as there's a full table of 'em.
Sweet. I could probably get all that done with only a few hours of frustration, and even more hours of just playing the damn game.

It seems safe to say that I wont have competition. -_- It would be a little healthier if I did.
Go for it - i found this game to be underrated and very unique, with only detriment being the weird collision bugs on some of those roller coaster tracks... i look forward to seeing your run!
Majority of the game is very funny in that fact that you can absolutely ignore almost every obstacle, by jumping around walls and skipping half the stage in a single jump.

Hello SDA! Im fairly new here, so ignore the idiocy of my first few replys to the forums.

Anyways, I have devised a route for emblem collection in this game!

1.Save Chicken Elder Oma-Oma!
2.Defeat Era Gecko!
3.Secret Little Forest Hut
4.Traveling Mini-Game Salesman #1
5.Secret Inside the Waterfall
6.Save Chicken Elder Uri-Uri!
7.Hurry to the Pirate Ship!
8.Race against King Clippen!!
9.Save Rolly!
10.Treasure in the Captain's Room
11.Save Chicken Elder Ura-Ura!
12.Defeat the 3 Bone Dragons!
13.Defeat 100 Crows
14.Chick has been kidnapped!
15.Save the 8 Chickens!
16.Save Chicken Elder Ponee!
17.Secret of Ice Castle!
18.After the blizzard...
19.Save Bantam!
20.Save the 8 Chickens!
21.Save Chicken Elder Allani!
22.Secret of the Fun House!
23.The Secret of the Giant Egg!
24.Defeat Dark Corvo!
25.Open the Rainbow Gate!

I cant guarantee that this is a concrete route, but I believe its solid enough to make changes to in the near future. Also, I do have plans on running this game. But unfourtunately, my Capture Card doesnt work. Maybe I can also do 100% too.
Too cool for 7th grade.
Can't wait to see what you record. Smiley
Hi, I'm new here.

So if someone were to submit a run, would the time be composed of all the level's times, or the overall playtime?

Please ignore the idiocy of my replies, also. XD
Waiting hurts my soul...
depends

Quote from Nopy:
So if someone were to submit a run, would the time be composed of all the level's times, or the overall playtime?

"If a game displays a time upon completion, and this time is tested to be accurate, then the timer will be used. An example of an inaccurate game timer is one that doesn't display the exact time when a player saves, such as Star Ocean 2's timer, which drops seconds when saving. Some game timers don't count time at pause/inventory screens, dialogs, cutscenes, etc., so the time can be significantly less than the video length. Some games have a timer but it can't be seen at the end of the game. In most of those cases the timer will be ignored. For some games like RPGs, however, such timers are displayed in a menu screen that you would be looking at before the final battle; that time will be noted and real time from that point added on."
how are the runs going? post 'em yet???

Well, I tried speed running the stage Secret Little Forest Hut just now, and I got a time of 1:19:13 by the in-game timer. I was wondering if this is good or bad.
It's not bad, this is my best time so far.

I'm also gonna start doing RTA's of this game.
Metroidvanias are God Tier
I love Billy Hatcher Cheesy

This is definitely a run I'll be looking forward to watching.
Been practicing this game a lot, I'm guessing once I route all the emblems, an RTA will be around 1:20 or so?

The cutscenes and loading times take a weird amount of time lol.

I keep finding 30 second emblems that are unlocked after 4 minute emblems :/

Nice to see that there is some interest in Billy Hatcher!

Do you have a route?

There are some shortcuts that I discovered since this run poped up. I'll begin to post them in the next few days & share with him.

Good morning!
Hello everyone! I'm ion12 on youtube. I've been working with fanbossvideo (AKA STBM the TASer), and we've found a good number of great shortcuts! My best time is now 1:19:39, but it's very improvable. I want to find more ways to save time before uploading another run.

I found this yesterday. I wonder if it could be useful somewhere else? I don't really know how to do this without a cannon, though.

Hi ion12!

Nice to hear that you are still working on your run. And Sub-1:20 does indeed sound pretty nice. Looking forward to what kind of stuff you bring in the future.

Good morning!
I've been working with STBM on a new TAS (he did the inputs, I helped with strategies and planning). The TAS is done, but he is having issues with the encode. I'll put the encode in this post when it's done.
